CM Punk Will Work John Cena Classic and Worlds Collide

CM Punk says he'll work both the Dec. 14 Raw featuring the John Cena Classic and the Marvel-themed Worlds Collide the next night, though his role is unclear.

CM Punk is booked for WWE’s two big nights at Disney World. He just hasn’t said in what role.

WWE recently announced that the Dec. 14 Raw will feature the John Cena Classic, followed by the Marvel-themed Worlds Collide on Dec. 15. Punk replied to WWE’s Instagram post about the events.

I’m gonna work both shows.

Punk didn’t specify whether he’ll be on screen or working behind the scenes. Either way, it puts him in the middle of two of WWE’s biggest December events.

The John Cena Classic is a tournament built around Cena’s legacy. Cena unveiled its championship on Raw in Brooklyn this week. The belt features an image of his trademark salute. He also said Club WWE voting will play a role, and he named Cody Rhodes as the first star invited to compete. No other participants have been announced.

Punk and Cena have plenty of history of their own. Punk has looked back on their famous rivalry, saying “we were married” when it came to working together.

Before any of that, Punk has a title match. He challenges Grayson Waller for the NXT Championship on Wednesday’s NXT, after calling Waller out following Waller’s win over Tony D’Angelo at Halloween Havoc.

The two have been building toward this for months. In August, Waller posted video of a heated backstage confrontation with Punk at an NXT live event, telling him, “I’m not a fan of you.” He later ripped the NXT locker room for fawning over Punk, and said he wanted to test himself against Punk in the ring and on the mic.

Punk has also spent time backstage at NXT, and Waller has since confirmed that Punk has been helping develop talent there.
