Dominik Mysterio wants to be the man who ends Rey Mysterio’s career. He is not entertaining alternatives.
The AAA Mega Champion made the case during a debut appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, waving off any version of his father’s retirement that does not run through him.
It has to be. I don’t see any other way for it. I genuinely don’t. It’s my birthright. I will lose my absolute —- if it’s not me. I have to do it, it’s the only way possible. I gotta take his mask and I gotta take his name.
Rumors earlier this year pointed to a father-son retirement match at WrestleMania 42. Dominik shot that timeline down, then made clear the idea has not left him.
I don’t think there was ever any talks for it, but I’ve been talking about it. I want him out of here. Now even with my sister coming in, there’s only room for so many Mysterios. There’s one pushing 60 and I think it’s time for him to kick rocks, that’s just how I see it.
Rey is 51. He currently serves as AAA General Manager and is still wrestling matches.
Dominik’s Dream Setting
Asked where he would stage the match, Dominik skipped premium live events entirely and went home.
If it was up to me, I would do it in El Auditorio de Tijuana Fausto Gutierrez, super historical arena down in Tijuana, Mexico. I believe my dad has wrestled there, debuted there. My great uncle. Most of my godfathers have wrestled there. There’s a historic tunnel that takes you down to the gorilla area.
The sister he referenced is Aalyah Mysterio. Dominik stopped short of confirming a WWE deal, saying only that he believes she is coming in.
The two once held WWE tag team gold together as the first father-and-son champions in company history. The on-screen relationship has curdled a long way past that. Dominik faces Danhausen in a Human Monies on a Pole match at SummerSlam on August 1 and 2 in Minneapolis.
