Sami Zayn had a huge realization about CM Punk after defeating him on SmackDown recently.
The Underdog from the Underground wrestled against Punk twice on television and at live events. After defeating him on SmackDown in Mexico City and winning back the Undisputed WWE Title, Sami Zayn appeared in an interview on the Busted Open Radio.
The new WWE Champion said he didn’t understand the hype around CM Punk and how he reached the unprecedented heights of success for years.
He actually opened my eyes because for a long time, the hype around Punk was like… you can say the same thing about me because people have said it about me. They’re like, ‘I don’t get this guy.’ And there were times that Punk, to the levels he reached, I was like, ‘I don’t get how he reached these levels.’ Clearly, there is something about him, but I didn’t always get the hype.
However, after Zayn wrestled him on numerous occasions, he finally understood the reason for his success and credited Punk for the same.
But after I got in the ring with him three or four times this year, you can’t take it away from him. Trust me, I would love to. I would love to just sit here and bash him for the next 10-15 minutes. But in the ring, I can’t take it away from him.
Sami Zayn got an unlikely assist from Kevin Owens that helped him beat CM Punk on SmackDown last week. With Zayn once again at the top of the mountain, it will be interesting to see his title reign begin for the second time.
