John Cena is coming back to Survivor Series. WWE confirmed Monday night that the retired 17-time world champion will appear at Survivor Series: WarGames on Saturday, Nov. 28 at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas.
The news came out of Cena’s return to Raw at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, his first Raw appearance of 2026. Ditching the suit for his old T-shirt and hat, Cena delivered three announcements for the John Cena Classic and its new championship.
The Classic takes place Monday, Dec. 14 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World in Orlando. It debuts a new title modeled on his old spinner WWE Championship, and Cody Rhodes is the first invited entrant.
With Rhodes beside him, Cena said he’d visit NXT, SmackDown and Survivor Series to fill out the field. Fightful Select reported Cena was penciled in for Houston as of showtime Monday, with the storyline explanation being that he’s scouting talent for the tournament.
Why Houston matters for the John Cena Classic
Every star Cena crosses paths with at Survivor Series becomes a potential invitee, and fans get a say too, since Club WWE voting plays a role in the tournament. Houston is the biggest stop on the recruiting tour he laid out, and the field beyond Rhodes is wide open.
The show already has heavy traffic. Roman Reigns is confirmed for Survivor Series, and WWE’s latest plan for WarGames points to The Bloodline vs. 946 in a five-on-five match. Rhodes, meanwhile, faces Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing match at Crown Jewel this Saturday in Riyadh, and Orton interrupted Cena’s segment to make that clear.
Cena’s first stop comes sooner. He’s set for a live NXT appearance on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
Cena’s Survivor Series history in Houston
The last time Survivor Series ran in Houston, in 2017, Cena was added as the fifth member of Team SmackDown. Last year’s event at Petco Park in San Diego was his final Survivor Series as an active wrestler before he retired at the end of 2025.
The 40th annual Survivor Series: WarGames starts at 6 p.m. ET / 3 p.m. PT and streams on ESPN in the U.S. and Netflix internationally. It’s the event’s first return to Houston since 2017 and the first WWE premium live event at Daikin Park since the 2020 Royal Rumble.
