Liv Morgan is not a background face in her first major film. She is the reason the plot happens.

NEON released the first trailer for Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo, and the Women’s World Champion is one of three names on the card alongside Lily James and Shun Oguri. She is credited under her ring name.

Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo - Official Teaser Trailer - Coming Soon

Oguri plays the disgraced Tokyo detective of the title. James plays an FBI agent. Morgan plays the missing daughter whose disappearance drives the investigation, described in NEON’s synopsis as the daughter of a powerful American family.

A disgraced Tokyo detective spirals into a world of corruption, addiction, and violence as he becomes entangled in a twisted investigation involving a vengeful ex-yakuza, an enigmatic FBI agent, and a missing daughter of a powerful American family.

Morgan posted about the trailer on Instagram, calling herself grateful and blessed to be part of the film and thanking NEON, Pressman Film and the production for the opportunity.

The director is Takashi Miike, whose 100-plus films include Audition, Ichi the Killer and 13 Assassins. Daisuke Tengan wrote the screenplay. The film is the third entry in a loosely connected series that began with Abel Ferrara’s 1992 original starring Harvey Keitel and continued with Werner Herzog’s 2009 Port of Call New Orleans starring Nicolas Cage. Sam Pressman produces through Pressman Film. His father, Edward R. Pressman, produced the first one.

Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, which runs September 10 to 20. NEON has not set a domestic release date, and the promotional material says only that it is coming soon. Morgan had previously said September.

She filmed in Japan during a stretch off WWE television in May 2025. Asked recently about moving into acting full-time, she said she considers herself a pro wrestling lifer who intends to wrestle until the wheels fall off.
