Mike Bailey Earns International Title Shot At AEW Redemption

ByAndrew RavensProfessional Wrestling Journalist

“Speedball” Mike Bailey climbed to a title shot in front of his hometown crowd to kick off AEW Redemption.

The six-way ladder match opened the pay-per-view from the Bell Centre in Montreal, pitting Bailey against Jack Perry, The Beast Mortos, Komander, Nick Wayne, and El Clon for a shot at the AEW International Championship. With Bailey wrestling in his home province of Quebec, the crowd was firmly behind him from the opening bell.

The chaos started immediately, with all six men brawling to the stage before Bailey hit a dive off the top of a ladder. Back inside, the table spots piled up in a hurry. Perry hit a hurricanrana off the apron through a table that refused to break, El Clon stomped Bailey off the top through a table on the floor, and Komander tightrope-walked into a springboard dive through a table on Wayne.

The near-falls kept coming from there. Wayne connected on a Phoenix Splash through a table to El Clon, and Perry planted Wayne with a Canadian Destroyer off one ladder through another. In the end, it was Bailey climbing to the top and hitting a backflip knee drop to The Beast Mortos through a ladder before grabbing the contract to win.

The victory books Bailey a future shot at the AEW International Championship. That title was set to be defended later on the same card, with Kyle Fletcher putting the belt on the line against Bandido, meaning Bailey will challenge whoever walks out of Montreal as champion.
