ByAnutosh BajpaiProfessional Wrestling Journalist

Sami Zayn has got his first title challenger.

This week’s episode of SmackDown opened with the new WWE Champion. He cut a promo talking about fans booing him for the past 6 months before Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso interrupted the segment.

After some back and forth, Semi told both the stars that he will be moving on from them. Adam Pearce then made an appearance, however, and despite Zayn’s protests, announced a #1 contenders match between Uso and Rhodes for later in the show.

The match that main-evented the episode was a fast-paced one with both contenders kicking out of each other’s finishers early on. In the end, it was the Golden Boy Cody Rhodes who picked up the victory over Jey after countering a lariat into a Cross Rhodes.

The WWE Title match between Sami Zayn and Cody Rhodes will be taking place at this Monday’s episode of Raw from CM Punk’s hometown of Chicago.

The Straight Edge Star is expected to make his first appearance since Raw after WrestleMania 42 on the show and you can check out a report on his SummerSlam direction here.
