Seth Rollins is making a bold claim about his place in WWE history heading into SummerSlam.
In an interview on Busted Open, Rollins argued that he and Roman Reigns are the two wrestlers who have defined the promotion over the last decade, and that their scarcity as a one-on-one PPV attraction makes their Night Two headliner a natural fit.
The two-night SummerSlam Premium Live Event takes place August 1 and 2 from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Rollins challenges Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of night two.
Rollins acknowledged the weight of closing the show over the rest of a stacked card, pointing to the two matches he goes on after.
You look at some of the marquee matches on the show, particularly the Hell in a Cell with Brock (Lesnar) and Oba (Femi) and Cody (Rhodes) and (CM) Punk for the WWE Championship. If you’re going on last over those two matches, that says a lot,” Rollins said.
He then made his case for why the spot belongs to him and Reigns.
As far as what’s defined WWE over the last decade, it’s been two guys, consistently. It’s been Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins, and so, it sort of makes sense if we’re gonna do this dance. It’s only the third time we’ve had a singles match on pay-per-view or Premium Live Event in either of our careers which is very seldom, so, I think it deserves this spot and I hope we can do it justice on Sunday night,” Rollins said.
Their Shared History
The rarity Rollins references stretches back to their days together in The Shield. Despite both operating at the top of the card for more than ten years, SummerSlam Night Two marks only their third singles meeting on a major PPV or PLE, following prior bouts including Royal Rumble 2022.
Reigns recently told Rollins during a contract signing that he would always be number two, adding fresh personal stakes to the rematch.
Reigns captured the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42 Sunday, defeating CM Punk to begin his reign with that title. Rollins arrives having beaten Bron Breakker in a weapons-filled Steel Cage Match at Night of Champions 2026.
Rollins and Reigns are both set to appear on the July 27 edition of Monday Night Raw as the build to Minneapolis continues.
