Backstage Update On WWE's WrestleMania 43 Main Event Plans

Roman Reigns vs. Oba Femi is reportedly still planned to headline night two of WrestleMania 43, but Cody Rhodes vs. CM Punk on night one isn't the current plan.

One rumored WrestleMania 43 main event is on track. The other isn’t, at least for now.

Talk has been building this week that Cody Rhodes vs. CM Punk would headline night one of next year’s show in Riyadh, with Roman Reigns vs. Oba Femi closing night two. Dave Meltzer of F4Wonline addressed it in today’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

There has been a lot of talk this week that the two main events for WrestleMania in 2027 would be Rhodes vs. Punk on night one and Reigns vs. Femi on night two.

From what we were told, the latter is accurate but the former is not the current plan.

Fightful Select recently reported that Reigns vs. Femi had been earmarked for the show, with some sources believing it could main event. The report also said Rhodes and Punk were expected to play big roles, with one source suggesting a rematch of their SummerSlam match.

Reigns vs. Femi has been in the works for months. It first surfaced as WWE’s reported backup plan if The Rock doesn’t compete. After Money in the Bank, Meltzer said Femi’s post-show callout of Reigns didn’t change anything and the match was still being saved for WrestleMania.

Femi, the 2026 King of the Ring, beat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 42. Reigns is the current World Heavyweight Champion.

Punk retained the WWE Championship against Rhodes at SummerSlam after Randy Orton returned to cost Cody the match. Punk has since lost the title to Sami Zayn.
