WWE used to park its celebrity guests in the corner and hope nobody noticed. The Miz says Bad Bunny ended that.
Speaking to Contralona, The Miz argued that the standard for celebrity matches moved because of what Bad Bunny put in before WrestleMania 37.
Let me tell you something. When celebrities come into WWE, I’ve never seen anyone train more than Bad Bunny to get there. Not only was he training, he was literally going to SNL. Then he would come and train. Like literally fly right back from SNL and train. Go to the Grammys. Then come right back to train.
The payoff, in his view, was a match that did not have to be protected.
Like he was so dedicated, and when he got in that ring, he was ready. He was prepared and the proof is in the pudding. You saw the ability that he was able to put on, and not everyone is able to do that. He kind of started that whole celebrity trend where it’s like, ‘hey, celebrities actually have to be good. We can’t just hide them.'
Then he explained what that meant in practice.
If you watch that match with Bad Bunny and that tag match, he was in that ring the entire time. That doesn’t happen. Usually we just shove him off into the corner and just, come on, tag me in, tag me in. No, no, we wanted to try something different, and the reason we were able to do that was the hard work that he put in.
The Miz was on the other side of it. He and John Morrison lost to Bad Bunny and Damian Priest on Night 1 of WrestleMania 37 on April 10, 2021, in Tampa, in a match remembered for the Canadian Destroyer Bad Bunny hit on Morrison. Priest has said Bunny trained with him multiple days a week in the build.
Bad Bunny has three WWE matches to his name, the last a San Juan Street Fight against Priest at Backlash 2023. WWE has been linked with bringing him back since he headlined the Super Bowl LX halftime show in February.
