Chatter on Kairi Sane’s potential AEW arrival has ramped up in recent weeks as reports indicated that the two parties were in discussions about bringing the former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion into the Tony Khan-led company.
Former AEW Women’s World Champion Thekla is still unsure of Sane’s status right now. She would certainly welcome the opportunity to face “The Pirate Princess” if the aforementioned talks worked out, however.
I always like new faces coming in,” Thekla told TV Insider in a new interview. “I still consider myself a new face somehow. It has only been a little bit over a year for me. I’m a huge fan of people just going from one territory to the other, like in the old days. I’m very excited to see who’s gonna step up, you know? Kairi has been the talk of the town. I’m only going to believe it once I see it. For the fans, it’s always cool to see a new matchup. We’ll see. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. Let us see if we can pice it up a little bit.
Looking ahead, Thekla is slated to battle Willow Nightingale at AEW All Out on September 26, with the winner earning a future AEW Women’s World Championship match. Sane, meanwhile, is in the midst of free agency following her exit from WWE in April 2026.
Sane last wrestled on the April 20 edition of WWE Raw. There, she and her long-time friend Asuka fell short to Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY in a tag team competition. Sane’s WWE departure came just days later.
Sane and Thekla previously crossed paths in an Artist of STARDOM Championship match in STARDOM in 2023.
