The Undertaker still does not understand why Vince McMahon refused to book him against Sting, and he reached for a baseball metaphor to explain how badly he thinks WWE misplayed it.
Asked about the dream match during a new Q&A episode of his Six Feet Under podcast, the Hall of Famer said the pitch never got traction with the former WWE chairman.
“For whatever reason, Vince did not see it, didn’t like it, didn’t want it. I was like, ‘Man, this is a home run. This is an easy main event for a pay-per-view,'” Undertaker said. “Vince obviously knows more about business than I do, but that one just seems like a home run where they decided to walk the guy instead of pitch to him.”
The Window That Closed
Sting spent time on the WWE roster in 2015, a run that included a WrestleMania 31 match against Triple H, but he never shared a ring with Undertaker.
Both men have since retired. Undertaker wrestled his last match at WrestleMania 36, while Sting closed his career at AEW Revolution in 2024.
Undertaker has accepted the match is gone for good. “I guess now it’ll be discussed for the rest of time. A what if,” he said.
A Frustration He Keeps Returning To
This is not the first time he has addressed it. Undertaker has previously explained McMahon’s decision to pass on the matchup, though the framing here is noticeably sharper than his earlier comments on the subject.
Worth noting where the criticism aired. Six Feet Under is now produced by WWE and Fanatics, which makes a former chairman’s booking call an unusual target for the show.
