Blake Monroe Started Doubting Herself When Her Debut Kept Getting Delayed

Blake Monroe admits she started doubting herself during the five-month wait for her SmackDown in-ring debut, which she says was delayed partly by injuries.

Blake Monroe opens up about her self-doubt.

The booking of the former Mariah May over the last few months has been very confusing for her fans. First she was squashed by Thea Hail in a Speed title tournament match on NXT. Then she was drafted to SmackDown, only for her debut to be delayed for months. The former AEW Women’s Champion finally made her in-ring debut for the Blue Brand on October 2 this month, after not wrestling a match for over five months.

The female star spoke about the delay in her debut during a recent appearance on Busted Open Radio. Blake Monroe first discussed how she loves to be in front of the crowd and win people over with her work. She then explained that she understands the importance of the right timing, but it doesn’t stop negative thoughts from creeping into her mind:

I knew in my heart, timing is everything, but it does get to a point months in where you’re thinking, ‘Alright, I train, I go to the gym every day, I dress like a million bucks, I have my character, I have ideas. I want to be out there. I see other girls I think I could be better than them. I think if I had the shots they had and the opportunities they had, I would have done more with it.’

While maintaining her character, Blake Monroe also revealed that injuries played a part in her debut getting delayed. Though she didn’t reveal a lot of details on the injuries, instead saying that you have to wait for just the right moment for the arrival of someone like her.

She praised Giulia as one of the hardest hitters on the roster and claimed that she was the correct opponent for her. The former NXT star, however, also noted that she has a natural hunger and desire to prove herself and that the delay made her question herself:

There is that natural hunger and desire, and it can get to a point where you question yourself and think, ‘Why is this not happening for me?’ But ultimately, it’s such a huge machine, there’s so many moving parts. There’s unpredictable factors like injuries and other things that shift around. For me, it was just every single week turning up and saying, ‘I’m ready for this. Here’s 20 different things I want to do on the show until one of them sticks,’ and it did.

Now I feel like I’m on the show and you can’t ignore me. You cannot keep me in the back for another week. You cannot look at me and my peers and not use me now. I did have moments where I questioned myself, so let that be a lesson to everyone out there. Even The Glamour questions herself, but I remembered who I am, what I did to get here, and I just kept working harder.

Blake Monroe defeated Giulia in her main roster debut match. The two stars met a second time in a Street Fight during the October 23 SmackDown, where Monroe once again came out victorious.
