Netflix has discussed adding Peacock to its service, which would put a lot of WWE programming in one place.
The New York Times reports that Netflix executives, who have historically resisted working with competitors, are now open to it. The company integrated the French broadcaster TF1 earlier this year, and the report says there have been recent discussions about making other services available too, naming Peacock and Fox One. No deal is close.
Netflix co-chief executive Greg Peters addressed the approach.
If we see additional deals that similarly serve our members, that work for our partner, that work for us, we’ll certainly consider them.
The report says a Peacock arrangement could take two forms. Netflix could fold Peacock’s content directly into its service or sell Peacock as a subscription through the Netflix app, as Amazon does with other platforms on Prime Video.
Saturday Night’s Main Event streams on Peacock in the United States and sits outside WWE’s Netflix arrangement, which covers Raw domestically and most of the company’s programming internationally. If Netflix and NBCUniversal reached a deal and it took the form of content integration rather than reselling subscriptions, the show could become available on Netflix.
The next edition is on September 6 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, and it is the first to run on a Sunday.
