WWE Hall of Famer Clarifies Contract Status Amid Recent Confusion

Jake “The Snake” Roberts says he is not under WWE contract and only signs autographs, and shares an update on his ongoing battle with emphysema and COPD.

WWE Hall of Famer Jake “The Snake” Roberts is setting the record straight on his WWE status and his health.

Roberts had said in a recent interview that he’d “re-signed” with WWE. In a video posted to his X account on November 3, he clarified that what he was referring to was returning to the company “in some capacity,” which he described as signing autographs.

He noted that he attended SummerSlam for that purpose and occasionally does Topps cards. As for a formal deal, Roberts was direct: he is not under contract “by any way, shape, or form.”

I did a promo and talked to a fellow. I had a great time being interviewed by him. But I talked about going back to work for WWE, yeah, in some capacity. And that capacity is real simple: signing autographs.

Yeah, I went to SummerSlam and signed some autographs, and I do some Topps cards here and there. I enjoy doing it, just coming out and seeing you guys, signing autographs for you, and taking pictures. That’s all there is. I’m not under contract by any way, shape, or form.

Jake Roberts Shares Health Update

Roberts also addressed concerns about his health, confirming he is on oxygen. He said he was “given emphysema and COPD” through genetics and that roughly 50 years of smoking made it worse. He revealed he quit smoking five weeks before recording the video and is sticking with it.

There may be a path to improvement. According to Roberts, a procedure is available once he has been smoke-free for six months, and it could help him get off oxygen.

He closed on an upbeat note, telling fans he plans to be around for a long time and that they should “get used to it.”

The second thing I want to talk to you about is much more serious. It’s about me being on oxygen. Yes, I’m on oxygen. Why? Because I was a fool, and because of genetics. Genetically, I was given emphysema and COPD, and, like a fool, I picked up some bad habits along the way: smoking. Yeah, I smoked for 50 friggin’ years, man. But I quit. I quit five weeks ago, and I’m sticking with it.

No-brainer, right? Yeah, because there’s a procedure they can do, but you have to be clean for six months before they’ll do it. It will help me get off oxygen, so thumbs up. We’re all good here. I’m gonna be around for a long time, so get used to it.

You have to put me on a different kind of list, I guess. A survivor list. See you around.
