In her statement, Green apologized if her response came across as dismissive of the valid concerns surrounding Hogan’s complicated legacy. She reiterated that she does not, under any circumstances, condone racism.
“Let me be clear: my stance on racism is unwavering. I do not condone it—period,” Green wrote. “If my response (or tweet) seemed dismissive of real concerns, I sincerely apologize. That was never my intention. I tried to acknowledge a death respectfully, even when the legacy is complicated. I am learning one day at a time and will continue to learn.”
The fan backlash stemmed from Green’s interview on CBS News, where she was asked to comment on Hogan’s life and career. Some viewers took issue with the fact that she did not mention or acknowledge the more controversial aspects of his life while paying tribute to him.
