Following the success of the Cruiserweight Classic and the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, WWE is moving forward with plans to present a tournament featuring women in early 2017.
According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the women’s tournament will be a weekly show on the WWE Network that will be taped in either January or March. Like the Cruiserweight classic, the talent pool will include women currently in NXT as well as international stars not under contract.
WWE is already reaching out to independent talent, with some being told the tapings begin in January and some being told March. According to the Observer report, the performers were not given many specifics regarding the scheduling, which could lead to conflicts for those who have contracted dates overseas.
