AEW Dynamite Results, Takeaways (11/23/22): Full Gear Fallout, Title Matches

AEW Dynamite airs live tonight from the WinTrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois. It is the first episode of Dynamite following Full Gear 2022. Chris Jericho defended the ROH Championship against Tomohiro Ishii in the main event.

Here are the takeaways from this week’s show:

Bryan Danielson Stopped Jon Moxley from Attacking William Regal

William Regal addressed the crowd to begin tonight’s show. Jon Moxley made his way to the ring and attempted to attack Regal but Bryan Danielson broke it up. Danielson asked Moxley not to hurt Regal and smacked him in the face. Moxley told Regal to run as far away as he can and never come back. Jon told Regal to start walking and got in his face. Regal exited the ring and walked away.

Orange Cassidy Retained, House of Black Returned

Orange Cassidy defended the All-Atlantic Championship against Jake Hager in the first match of the night. Cassidy ripped off Jake’s goofy hat and JAS tried to get it back as Dynamite went to a break. When Dynamite returned, Cassidy hit a DDT and went for the cover but Hager kicked out at two. Orange was able to roll-up Hager and escape with a pinfall victory to retain the All-Atlantic Championship.

After the match, The Factory interrupted and surrounded Best Friends and Orange Cassidy. The lights went out and House of Black made their return. Julia Hart watched on as House of Black beat everyone down. Malakai, Buddy, and Body King posed on the entrance ramp at the end of the segment.

Ricky Starks World Title Eliminator Tournament, Will Battle MJF for the AEW World Championship at Winter is Coming

Ricky Starks battled Ethan Page in the finals of the World Title Eliminator Tournament tonight on AEW Dynamite. The winner of the match will face MJF for the AEW World Championship at Dynamite: Winter is Coming.

Ricky was heavily bandaged for the match and Page dominated the action early. Ricky rolled out of the ring to regroup but Page followed him out there. Ethan slammed Starks into the barricade as Dynamite went to a commercial break.

When Dynamite returned, Page slammed Starks’ chest across the top rope but Ricky battled back. Starks knocked Ethan out of the ring and went for a Suicide Dive but Stokely Hathaway pulled him out of the way. The referee caught it and threw Stokely out from ringside as the match continued.

Page climbed to the top rope but Ricky greeted him up there with some strikes to the face. Starks connected with a Swinging Neckbreaker and followed it up with an awesome Tornado DDT but Page somehow kicked out at two. Ethan blocked the Roshambo and beat Starks down in the corner. Page connected with a Powerslam but Ricky powered out at two.

Ethan connected with a kick but Starks bounced off the ropes and connected with a Spear. Ricky hit another Spear for the pinfall victory. Ricky Starks will battle MJF for the AEW World Championship at AEW Dynamite: Winter is Coming.

Death Triangle Retained the Trios Championship

Death Triangle defended the Trios Championships against The Elite in the 2nd match of their best of 7 series. The action started off back and forth as the crowd booed Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks out of the building.

A very loud “CM Punk!” chant broke out as Omega hit a Bulldog on Pac for a two count. Kenny made the GTS motion and bit Rey’s arm. Pentagon tagged in and hit some Splashes. Lucha Bros hit Nick Jackson with a Hurricanrana and booted Matt in the face as the crowd cheered.

PAC and Kenny tagged in as a “this is awesome!” chant broke out. Matt mocked CM Punk botching the Buckshot Lariat as the crowd booed. Kenny Omega hit a GTS but Pac kicked out at two. Fenix used the hammer again and Death Triangle retained to go up 2-0 in the series.

Thunder Rosa Relinquished AEW Women’s Title, Jamie Hayter Named Official Champion

Renee Paquette came to the entrance ramp and announced that Thunder Rosa will be relinquishing the AEW Women’s Championship and Jamie Hayter is now the official AEW Women’s Champion.

AEW and Thunder Rosa have reached a mutual agreement, AEW management has been forced to ask Thunder Rosa to relinquish the AEW Women’s Championship. Thunder Rosa was a fighting champion for AEW, she’s willing to step aside and forfeit the title for the benefit of AEW. But more specifically for the benefit of all of the women in AEW.

Jamie Hayter and Britt Baker then battled Skye Blue & Willow Nightingale and Anna Jay & Tay Melo in a Triple Threat tag team match. The action quickly broke down and Britt Baker connected with a Stomp on Skye Blue for the pinfall victory.

The Acclaimed Promo, FTR to Defend ROH Tag Titles on Rampage

AEW Tag Team Champions The Acclaimed rapped about their victory over Swerve in Our Glory at Full Gear this past Saturday night. Bowens said they had a lot to be thankful for on Thanksgiving Eve. The Acclaimed added that Daddy Ass Billy Gunn is heeled and they went to scissor but were interrupted.

Jay Lethal, Sonjay, Satnam, and Jeff Jarrett mocked them but Billy got them off the jumbotron. The Acclaimed and Billy then scissored in the ring.

Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee were shown having a conversation backstage earlier on the show. Strickland put his hand over the camera to end the segment.

Renee Paquette interviewed ROH Tag Team Champions FTR and Top Flight backstage. Darrius and Dante Martin challenged Dax and Cash to a title match on Rampage and FTR accepted.

Chris Jericho Retained the ROH Championship

Chris Jericho defended the ROH Championship against Tomohiro Ishii tonight in the main event of AEW Dynamite. Jericho and Ishii started off the match by trading chops to the chest over and over again.

When Dynamite returned, Jericho and Ishii traded more chops. Jericho’s chest was bright red after the chops and he was bleeding as well. Le Champion drove Ishii to the corner and unloaded some punches. Jericho hit a chop to the neck and Ishii fell to the ring apron.

Chris hit a DDT and spiked Ishii on the ring apron. Back in the ring, Jericho hit a couple of German Suplexes but Ishii kept getting up. Chris hit another one and followed it up with a Lionsault but Tomohiro kicked out at one.

Jericho connected with a Codebreaker and went for the cover but Ishii kicked out at the last moment. Chris set up for the Judas Effect but Ishii blocked it and knocked the champion to the mat. Ishii followed it up with a forearm to the face but Jericho kicked out at two.

Chris tripped Ishii up and went for the Walls of Jericho but couldn’t get it locked in. Tomohiro hit a Codebreaker of his own and then a massive Clothesline for another two count. Chris applied the Walls of Jericho in the middle of the ring and eventually, Ishii had no choice but to tap out. Chris Jericho is still the ROH Championship. Jericho stomped up the entrance ramp and trash-talked with ROH commentator Ian Riccaboni. Former ROH Champion Claudio Castagnoli showed up and leveled Jericho with an uppercut as Dynamite went off the air.
