A new backstage report has emerged about Willow Nightingale’s AEW Women’s World Championship. It suggests that the win was the product of months of planning aimed at one destination: a title match against Mercedes Moné at All In.
Fightful‘s post-show coverage of the AEW Redemption event by Sean Ross Sapp noted that AEW had long settled on Nightingale winning the championship as the setup for a marquee program with Moné. The framing positions Sunday’s victory not as an endpoint but as a launchpad.
Willow has been planned for the World Title scene—and specifically a World Title win—for months, I’m told. It was always going to be her and Mercedes at All In,” Sapp reportedly said.
Nightingale overcame interference from Skye Blue before beating Thekla with a roll-up to reclaim the title at the Bell Centre.
The history between Nightingale and Moné is at the center of the story. Nightingale beat Moné in the tournament final to win the inaugural NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship at NJPW Resurgence on May 21, 2023. She later held the ROH Women’s World Championship after defeating Athena at Supercard of Honor in April 2024.
