CM Punk Warns Fans Not to Follow Him to His Hotel After Las Cruces Incident Goes Viral

ByMike ReichlinProfessional Wrestling Journalist

A video of a fan encounter at CM Punk’s hotel following a WWE live event in Las Cruces, New Mexico went viral over the weekend, sparking a social media controversy. Now, both sides are telling very different stories.

What Happened at the Hotel

Following a WWE live event in Las Cruces on Saturday, July 11, a family staying at Punk’s hotel spotted him in the lobby. According to the mother’s account, she and her young son did not follow Punk from the arena. She says her 6-year-old son simply recognized Punk in the lobby and became excited.

The mother claims Punk responded by “mad-dogging” (glaring at) the family and wanted nothing to do with them. She described the experience as deeply upsetting for her child, summing it up bluntly: “Don’t meet your heroes.”

A video of the encounter circulated widely across social media, racking up significant engagement over the weekend.

Punk Responds on Instagram

The following day, Punk posted an Instagram Story addressing the Las Cruces crowd and setting a clear boundary with fans. The Story has since been deleted. While he praised the crowd as “lovely,” “loud,” and “fun,” he included a firm message:

Please do not follow me to my hotel.

Screenshots of the Story were widely re-shared, with many outlets framing it as Punk “breaking his silence” on the viral incident. However, he did not directly address the family’s specific account or the “mad-dogging” accusation. WWE has not issued a statement on the matter.

Both Sides Apart

The key dispute boils down to this: Punk’s Instagram warning implies someone crossed a boundary by following him to the hotel. The family insists they were already there and did nothing wrong, as they were simply guests at the same hotel when their young child spotted a WWE superstar.

Neither account has been independently corroborated, and Punk has not publicly elaborated beyond his now-deleted Story.

Not the First Time

This is not the first fan-related hotel incident to follow Punk in recent months. During WrestleMania 42 weekend in April 2026, Punk was involved in a widely reported hotel altercation with a fan at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, drawing significant attention at the time.

Punk is currently riding high after defeating Sami Zayn on the July 6 edition of Raw to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship. The Las Cruces event marked his first live event appearance as champion.

Whether this latest incident fades quickly or adds to a growing narrative around Punk’s fan interactions remains to be seen.
