Darby Allin has picked out his next target, and it’s the most recognizable building on the Las Vegas skyline.
The former AEW World Champion appeared on Fox5 Vegas on August 11 during AEW’s run at The Pearl Theater at the Palms. Asked whether there were any buildings in Las Vegas he’d want to attempt a stunt on, Allin skipped the casinos entirely and went to the Sphere.
It would be fun to try to skateboard down The Sphere,” Allin said, pointing to the shape of the building. “I would love if there was a way to do that, that you wouldn’t die. I would, yeah sign me up. Let me skateboard down the side with like a bungee cord attached to my back.
The Sphere stands 366 feet tall and 516 feet wide, wrapped in the LED exterior known as the Exosphere. It opened in September 2023 at a cost of roughly $2.3 billion. Neither Sphere Entertainment nor AEW has said anything publicly about the idea.
A Strange Week To Ask For A Bigger Stunt
The pitch landed in the middle of a stretch where Allin spent most of his press defending how he works. Two days after the Fox5 appearance, he told The Mark Hoke Show that the reckless label misses everything happening away from the cameras, saying he may look careless but that what he does is “so calculated.”
Tony Khan has largely backed that up. Speaking to ESPN earlier this year, the AEW president said he trusts Allin because his risks are calculated and he respects danger, naming only the glass spot from Sting’s retirement match at Revolution 2024 as the one time he questioned it. Khan also said he has turned Allin down nine or ten times, including a pitch to get hit by a car.
It’s the same media run where Allin described nearly drowning while trying to kickflip on the ocean floor with sharks circling him, and told another outlet there’s nothing he won’t do for AEW. He also made a case for Mick Foley wrestling again, while ruling himself out as the opponent.
Khan signed off on Everest. A 366-foot LED ball on the Strip is a different conversation.
