A new AEW signing.
Indie star Janai Kai wrestled several matches for AEW in 2021 and 2022, including an appearance on Rampage for a short match against Jade Cargill.
Kai has had an increased presence on ROH in recent months. She most recently challenged Athena for the ROH Women’s Title and has competed against names such as Billie Starkz and Maya World.
Now Fightful Select has revealed that there is a good reason for the female star’s increased presence recently, reporting that Janai Kai is actually under contract with the company.
Kai has previously worked for indie promotions such as GCW and Gleat in Japan. She was also under contract with MLW for a while and had a run with the MLW World Women’s Featherweight Championship before announcing her departure from the promotion in May last year.
The report could not confirm if Janai was under a full-time or per-appearance deal. There is no word on whether the officials have any plans for her to appear on AEW either.
