Wrestling legend Michael Hayes was the most recent guest on Stephanie McMahon’s What’s Your Story? podcast. He talked about things such as Vince McMahon’s hate for the Fabulous Freebirds, how he won the former WWE chairman over and more.

While telling the story of his transition from an on-screen role to his backstage duties, the wrestling veteran also recalled an interaction with Triple H about the future of Bobby Roode. Michael Hayes revealed that the WWE Chief Content Officer compared him to the legendary producer Pat Patterson and asked him to prepare Roode as his successor in that role:

Trips came up to me one day and he goes, ‘So Michael, you know you’re not gonna be around forever?’ And he said, ‘You’re our Pat Patterson. I need you to make Bobby Roode ‘Michael.’ “And I said, ‘Okay, that’s a really good point, because I’m not gonna be here forever.’ And boy, has he come along.

Michael Hayes praised Bobby Roode as someone who is very good at his job. He also explained what the former NXT Champion has to do to become a great producer in time:

Bobby’s really really good, and he’s gonna be great. I see great things for him. He’s just gotta get out of the stuff where, I don’t know how to really categorize this.

Stuff happens in this industry that’s just out of your control, and it’s just gonna happen. And you just gotta kind of let it go and say, ‘Okay. We’re doing this.’ and don’t waste so much energy bitching about doing it.

Bobby Roode transitioned to a backstage producer role after undergoing multiple neck surgeries in 2022. He has been credited with producing some of the biggest WWE matches of recent times, including this year’s WrestleMania main event.
