Jim Ross Facing Brain Surgery Again Over Shunt Complications

Jim Ross says he is heading back into surgery. The 74-year-old WWE Hall of Famer announced on X that he is scheduled for brain surgery Wednesday morning to address complications with the shunt placed in his head this summer, and he asked supporters for positive thoughts.

Ross had the shunt implanted on August 12 in Norman, Oklahoma, to drain excess fluid from his brain after a run of falls and ongoing memory and balance problems. He has said he believes the fluid buildup is why he kept falling.

The recovery has been rough. On the most recent Grilling JR, Ross said “This shunt is problematic” and described severe headaches that wake him in the middle of the night. He said the device had already been adjusted three times, and that a CT scan and a visit with his neurosurgeon were lined up. Our earlier report on those shunt headaches and kidney tests has the full rundown.

Wednesday’s procedure lands on top of a long list of health concerns. Ross said doctors found a spot on his kidney and referred him to a specialist in Oklahoma City, and he has stressed that it has not been determined what the spot is. He has also said he has lost about 50 pounds from his heaviest weight, and that a wound on his left ankle from skin cancer radiation treatment has still not healed.

The surgery also clouds his AEW status. Ross missed All Out and has said he wants to return to his part-time commentary role once he is healthy enough. His recovery from earlier setbacks, including two broken toes, has already pushed that return back more than once.

SEScoops wishes Jim Ross a smooth surgery and a full recovery.
