Kurt Angle’s dream Main Event Mafia would need a working relationship between WWE and AEW.
Speaking with Men’s Journal, the WWE Hall of Famer was asked to build a modern version of the TNA faction he fronted. He picked four names, three of them with a reason attached.
Ooh, man, I’d have to pick four members. I would say Roman Reigns, definitely. Gunther, because you need the muscle. You need the goon.
Then he crossed promotional lines.
I would also say Kenny Omega because you’re going to need the athleticism. I’d also go with CM Punk because you need the attitude.
Three of the four are on the WWE roster. Omega is AEW’s biggest name, which makes the group a non-starter outside of a hypothetical.
That would be my dream Main Event Mafia.
The original Main Event Mafia formed in TNA in October 2008 with Angle, Sting, Kevin Nash, Booker T and Scott Steiner. Samoa Joe joined later. The group was built around a storyline where veterans from WWE and WCW were squeezing out the younger TNA originals, and it ran for about a year before they broke up. A 2013 revival with Magnus and Rampage Jackson lasted a few months.
