Bishop Dyer is playing hardball.
MLW has turned the recent rumors about one half of their current tag team champions into a storyline. With discussions about the former Baron Corbin returning to WWE, the company has explained his absence saying that Dyer is engaged in a contract dispute with the promotion, demanding many luxuries from the officials for his return.
In a recent interview with In The Weeds, MLW owner Court Bauer was asked about the status of the current champion. The wrestling promoter seemed to take the same line between kayfabe and reality, saying that Baron Corbin is playing hardball:
Conversations are fluid, but he recently dug in and is playing hardball. I want to be transparent with our audience and fans. We got to a certain point where it’s not looking great, and we’re at an impasse.
Bauer did praised Baron Corbin as an amazing talent and a great team player but explained that a deal can only be done when it makes sense for both the parties:
Obviously, there are rumors about Bishop, his future, and where he’s going next. This may get done, it may not get done, and I wanted everyone to be aware of it.
If I have the opportunity to disclose what’s going on, I would like to, and do it in a way where the audience has context. I’m confident we can try to get something done; it just has to make sense for both parties. He’s been an amazing talent and great team player,
There is no word on where the negotiations between Corbin and WWE stand at the moment. We will have to see how MLW handles the situation with the tag titles if the current champion returns to the TKO owned promotion.
