Nyla Rose wants to know when her turn is coming. The former AEW Women’s World Champion told Denise Salcedo that her long absence from AEW television has been tough to accept while the women’s division moves forward without her.
“It is a little hard. It is a little frustrating,” Rose said. “In this business, you do have to be a little bit selfish to a degree. You can be selfish while being selfless, and this, I think is one of those moments. I want more for myself. I want to do more. I want to entertain you guys more in a multitude of ways.”
Rose hasn’t wrestled on AEW programming since a November 2024 episode of Rampage. Fightful Select reported last year that she was still under contract and not injured, with no word of her being brought up creatively.
She hasn’t been idle. In August, Rose told K&S WrestleFest she’s been doing behind-the-scenes work for AEW while “side questing” on the independent scene and a tour of Japan.
Watching The Title Picture From Afar
Rose was quick to credit the stories AEW is telling in the meantime.
“So it is a little frustrating when things like that happen, but there are amazing things happening. There are great things happening, so being able to kind of sit back and see these things. See Mercedes actually rise to the top and win the AEW Women’s Championship, and now she’s starting to butt heads with Thekla. Things like this. Willow’s whole journey, things like that.”
Mercedes Moné beat Willow Nightingale at All In at Wembley Stadium on August 30 to win the AEW Women’s World Championship for the first time. Nightingale had taken the title from Thekla at Redemption in July. Thekla then crashed Moné’s celebration on the September 2 Dynamite, and the two went face to face again on last week’s show.
Rose’s patience only goes so far.
“It’s like, okay, we can sit back and enjoy this as well, but dammit, when’s my turn?”
Back in May, Rose told Thunder Rosa on Rosa’s YouTube channel that if AEW used her, she’d want Thekla, then the champion, so she could “get that championship back.” Thekla is now chasing that same title from Moné.
