CM Punk asked the crowd who he should defend against next. They picked Oba Femi, and Punk did not flinch.
Punk retained the Undisputed WWE Championship against Cody Rhodes on Night 1 of SummerSlam, then ran through his options on the post-show. Trick Williams, Sami Zayn and Gunther all came up. The chants were for Femi.
Listen, Oba Femi, without a doubt, is the future. That does not mean that I am not the present. Be careful what you try to open underneath the Christmas tree. You may not like what you get.
Then he made his pitch, and buried the other world title on the way through.
Oba is fantastic. My experience trumps his ability. Oba hasn’t picked what champion he wants to go after. If he wants to wallow in obscurity, go after Roman. If you want to live under the bright lights, come after the real champ.
Femi took the same seat later in the night. Asked whether he always knew he had the tools, he said he was born for this, as though he had been made in a lab to wrestle. He called himself that guy, then turned to Punk.
There are some people who say they are the best on this microphone, in that ring, even at commentary. You want to drop pipebombs and all that stuff, but understand one thing. Your bombs don’t work when it comes to Oba Femi. You are gifted on this mic and so am I.
Femi is owed a shot at something. He won King of the Ring in June, which guaranteed a world title match at SummerSlam, and spent it on Brock Lesnar instead. He got that win on Saturday, and Lesnar stayed in the ring afterwards to call him the future of the company.
