WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio isn’t putting a timeline on the end of his career and honestly, he’s enjoying the ride too much right now to think about it.
Mysterio currently balances two roles, wrestling on WWE Raw while also serving as AAA’s general manager. He most recently competed at AAA TripleMania night one, facing Omos.
Speaking to BANGShowbiz ahead of that match, Mysterio was asked directly about a possible retirement timeline. He explained that he’s currently enjoying the process more than he used to, since the demands aren’t as constant as they once were when he was wrestling four or five days a week.
I think I’m loving the process right now of enjoying the moments as they come, before it was maybe a little bit more stressful because you were working constantly, four or five days a week.
Splitting time between the GM role in AAA and his in-ring program on Raw suits him, he said, because he still gets to learn and grow on both sides of the business. His conclusion: he’s simply going to let things play out and see where the road takes him, since he’s genuinely enjoying his time in the ring right now, whether as a wrestler or as an executive.
But now it’s been like- with the GM role in AAA, and then wrestling on RAW, I kind of vibe that program, I don’t mind it at all. I enjoy it because I’m still on both sides of the spectrum and I’m learning as I’m growing still.
So it’s really fun. I think I’m just going to wing it and see where this road takes me because I’m really enjoying the moments right now that I’m living inside the ring, whether as a wrestler or as a GM.
With no hard end date attached to his career and both roles clearly still fulfilling for him, Mysterio’s retirement looks like it’ll arrive whenever it feels right, not on any fixed schedule.
