Stephanie McMahon has finally put a long-running WWE rumor to rest.
Appearing on her own podcast, ‘What’s Your Story?’, McMahon sat down with Brie Bella for a wide-ranging conversation that touched on one of the more bizarre pieces of wrestling lore: the belief that Stephanie lost control of her bladder after Brie slapped her during their 2014 Payback storyline.
Asked about it directly, Stephanie didn’t dodge the question. She explained that the viral moment was likely nothing more than an unfortunate trick of the lighting, with shadows creating the appearance that something happened when it didn’t. She was clear that she would have owned it if it were true, but insisted it simply wasn’t — while still admitting the slap itself was no work: it hurt.
So I, you know, when we did the segment when you slapped me, do you know everybody thought I peed myself after? Yes. So apparently, this was not what they wanted me to bring up, but since we’re going here.
Like, I guess it was just the shadow, like the way my- because I would admit it if that happened, you know- but it’s like, I guess there was a shadow and people… Yeah, it blew up that, like, you made me pee myself because you hit me so hard. You did hit me hard, though. You did.
The two also looked back on how chaotic that Payback segment was behind the scenes. Brie recalled the script changing multiple times right up until they walked through the curtain, with Vince McMahon reworking the plan on the fly moments before they went out.
Okay. Can we talk about, I don’t know if you remember this. So do you remember how the script kept changing? And then, literally, we’re in Gorilla, and your dad was like, ‘Wait, I think it should be something else.’
According to Brie, Stephanie was told to just ask questions and let the moment play out, with the pre-planned finish being that Brie would be the one to quit.
And you were kind of like, ‘What?’ And then you looked at Brian and I, and you go, ‘You know what? I’m just gonna ask you guys questions. Just answer them. And we know, Brie, at the end, you’re quitting.’ And your music hit, and you left, and I looked at Brian, and I go, ‘Wait, so what game plan is it?’ And he goes, ‘she’s gonna ask us.’
