The Miz says nobody told Brock Lesnar to put Oba Femi over on the microphone at SummerSlam after their bout.
Femi beat Lesnar inside Hell in a Cell to close Night One in Minneapolis. Lesnar was on his way out when he turned back, brought Femi into the ring and told the crowd Femi was the future of WWE. Speaking to TMZ Sports on Inside The Ring, The Miz said that was Lesnar’s own decision.
It wasn’t the fact that he lost. It was the fact that after the match he was walking out of the ring and then turned back around and basically, as we call it, gave Oba Femi the rub. Creative didn’t tell Brock. Brock does what Brock wants to do. Brock isn’t told something. When he feels it, he just goes after it and does it.
He also thinks the endorsement comes with a bill attached.
He’s literally, you’ll never see a talent like Brock Lesnar ever again. He was the next big thing and then he passed the torch to what he believes is the next big thing. And that is a lot of pressure for Oba Femi. But I think Oba Femi is the type of talent that can withstand that pressure.
The account matches what Triple H said at the post-show press conference, where he declined to confirm whether the moment was a retirement and said he would take Lesnar’s words at face value and wait.
Femi has taken two of three from Lesnar. He beat him at WrestleMania 42, lost the rematch at Clash in Italy, and closed the trilogy on Saturday. He also won King of the Ring in June, then spent the guaranteed world title shot that came with it on Lesnar rather than a champion.
