WWE Hall of Famer JBL isn’t ready to bet on Tom Brady stepping into a WWE ring for a singles match, but he’s not betting against it either.
Speaking on Something to Wrestle With, Bradshaw was asked whether he expects the NFL legend to actually wrestle a match for the company. He said he’s hopeful it happens, pointing out that Brady has already filmed a segment with Cody Rhodes and that there appears to be real dialogue between Brady and WWE.
I hope we do. Yeah, I think it’d be awesome. I think it’d be so much fun to have him [inaudible]. He did something with Cody. I saw him on a clip with Cody as well, so he’s obviously doing a lot with WWE. So I think there’s some talk that’s going on.
JBL argued the timing makes sense: Brady’s case as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, paired with his current run as a top-paid broadcaster, gives WWE an obvious opportunity if Brady is willing. He said:
I mean this is, to me, a perfect setup for it to have Tom Brady, possibly the greatest quarterback of all time. You can argue Bradshaw, Montana lost the Super Bowl but Brady won seven. He has an argument for the GOAT debate.
One of the best commentators, highest paid commentators out there right now. He’s all over the place. This would be if he wanted to do it. Obviously you’re not gonna be able to pay him enough to make it worth his while. It depends on what worth his while means.
JBL Talks About Potential Tag Team Match
Still, he said a tag match feels more likely than a full singles outing, adding he has a hard time picturing Brady in a one-on-one match — while noting he wouldn’t be shocked if it happened anyway, given how good shape Brady is reportedly still in.
He added:
But this is something if he wants to do it I think he would do it. Apparently he’s got some real interest here. So I hope we do. It’s hard to believe you’d see him in a singles match, but you might. I saw him hitting the bag at one of those Fanatics… (boxer arcade machine) Brother, what a punch he has.
Of course, he’s a great athlete, but God, what a punch he has. He might [do a singles match]. He’s obviously in great shape still, and you might see him do something. I would think it’d be more like a tag match, but you never know. That would be huge if he did.
Bradshaw also gave credit to Logan Paul, saying any Brady appearance would likely happen because of the momentum Paul has built in WWE. He suggested that for the angle to pay off, Brady would need to actually be in the ring rather than just standing at ringside for someone else’s match.
Brady and Paul have been feuding publicly for weeks, a dispute that escalated when Brady slapped Paul at Fanatics Fest earlier this month. It has since been reported that Brady is in ongoing talks with WWE, which only added fuel to speculation about an in-ring debut.
