Tony Khan brought Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope out for an on-stage segment at Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, taped live from the Masonic Temple Theater in Detroit.
Photos and video from the broadcast show Khan holding a microphone alongside the Insane Clown Posse duo, both in their signature face paint, as Khan addressed the Detroit crowd. Shaggy 2 Dope wore a Detroit Tigers jersey for the appearance.
The segment followed a build that started earlier Wednesday when Vince Russo revealed on the Coach and Bro Show that Khan had personally reached out to Violent J ahead of the show. Russo, who works alongside Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope in Juggalo Championship Wrestling, said the duo would not be performing but that Khan wanted to meet Violent J and wanted to do something with them.
Insane Clown Posse has deep roots in Detroit and in wrestling. Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope started in backyard wrestling in the area back in 1983 before working ECW, WWF, and WCW, and they still run their own JCW promotion out of the region. Khan has previously said he’s a fan of JCW’s weekly YouTube show, JCW Lunacy.
This marks a reversal from 2023, when AEW referee Bryce Remsburg said Khan turned down an offer to have ICP appear on a Detroit Dynamite taping, reportedly telling staff he’d have to think about whether the promotion needed them on the show.
