TripleMania 34 opens tonight at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and two AAA championships booked for Sunday’s Night 2 could change hands in Mexico City before the first bell rings. The War Raiders and Rey Fenix both defend AAA gold on SmackDown from Arena CDMX, two hours ahead of the Las Vegas start.
In Las Vegas, AAA general manager Rey Mysterio can banish Omos from the promotion for good, and La Parka makes his first Latin American Championship defense. It’s the first TripleMania held in the United States since 1996.

AAA Gold Is On The Line Before Las Vegas Goes Live
TripleMania weekend really starts in Mexico City. SmackDown airs live from Arena CDMX at 8 p.m. ET on USA, with The War Raiders defending the AAA World Tag Team Championship against Damian Priest and R-Truth.
Rey Fenix also puts the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship on the line against Ricky Saints on the same show. Both results feed straight into Sunday.
Erik and Ivar have an open challenge for the tag titles booked for Night 2, and Fenix is scheduled to defend in a fatal four-way against Nathan Frazer, Jack Cartwheel and Mini Vikingo. A title change on SmackDown would put a new champion in either spot before TripleMania’s first match in Las Vegas.
WWE also has a few “unexpected elements in store for the shows,” particularly on Night 2, according to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select.
Why TripleMania Is In Las Vegas
Night 1 was originally booked for Luxor. After that show sold out, AAA cited “unprecedented demand” in a July 30 announcement and moved it to MGM Grand Garden Arena, which MGM Resorts lists at 16,800 seats.
There’s a business motive behind the location, too. WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select reported in August that TripleMania was first planned as a single night in Mexico, and the Las Vegas half now lands one night before Zuffa Boxing’s Ryan Garcia vs. Conor Benn card at T-Mobile Arena.
WWE reportedly hopes network executives in town for that fight will check out the lucha libre show on Friday. AAA’s weekly program airs on FOX in Mexico and free on YouTube in the U.S. and internationally, and WWE is reportedly still shopping the product around. Nick Khan has credited the YouTube approach with significant audience growth for AAA.

Match Previews
Rey Mysterio vs. Omos
In the storyline, Mysterio suspended Omos indefinitely after the giant put his hands on him during the August 22 episode of AAA on FOX. Omos showed up anyway at Ola de Calor, where Dominik Mysterio and Dorian Roldán refused to sign for the Mega Championship match unless the suspension was lifted.
Omos pulled out a ticket and patted Mysterio on the head, and the general manager went after him with a microphone. Once the two sides were separated, Mysterio made the match: if Omos wins, he’s back in AAA, and if he loses, he’s gone for good.
El Grande Americano will be in Mysterio’s corner, while Dominik and Roldán accompany Omos. A win would also put Omos back at Dominik’s side for Sunday’s Mega Championship defense against El Grande Americano.
Promoting the match on Complex Graps, Omos praised the AAA crowds and said his run had been a treat “until the little pest Rey (Mysterio) came into the picture.”
AAA Latin American Championship: La Parka (c) vs. Mr. Iguana vs. Laredo Kid
La Parka won the vacant title on August 30 at Ola de Calor in Edinburg, Texas, pinning El Fiscal in a four-way that also included Damian Priest and El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. Tonight is his first defense.
The belt opened up after El Hijo del Vikingo tore his ACL. Dave Meltzer wrote in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Vikingo had surgery on July 7 and was expected to be out for about nine months.
Mysterio booked the triple threat on the September 5 episode of AAA on FOX after Mr. Iguana asked him for a title shot. The catch is that Iguana has to go through his best friend to get it, with Laredo Kid added as the third man.
AAA World Trios Championship: Los Psycho Circus (c) vs. Los Perros del Mal
Dave the Clown, Murder Clown and Panic Clown defend the trios titles against Daga, Angel and Berto. It’s one of only two championship matches on the Las Vegas card.
Fatal 4-Way: Nattie vs. Faby Apache vs. La Hiedra vs. Roxanne Perez
The winner earns a Reina de Reinas Championship match at Worlds Collide on September 26 at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. She’ll face whoever leaves Mexico City with the title, since Flammer defends against La Catalina on Night 2.
Perez arrives from The Judgment Day, while Nattie comes in days after she rejected claims that her Nattie character copies Ronda Rousey. Faby Apache and La Hiedra round out the field.
Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Elimination Match
Fraxiom, Los Americanos, the Tokyo Bad Boys and the LWO meet under elimination rules. AAA hasn’t announced a title shot for the winners.
Bravo and Rayo won an August 22 No. 1 contender’s four-way that included the LWO, then fell short against The War Raiders at Ola de Calor. Frazer pulls double duty this weekend, since he’s also in Sunday’s Cruiserweight Championship four-way after he, Cartwheel and Mini Vikingo fought to a time-limit draw at Ola de Calor.
Six-Person Mixed Tag Team Match
Mascarita Sagrada, Mini Vikingo and Adelicious face Jack Cartwheel, Mini Abismo Negro and Lady Shani. The match puts Mini Vikingo and Cartwheel across the ring from each other two nights before they meet again with the Cruiserweight Championship at stake.
