Vic Joseph says he was blown away after a blind wrestling fan credited his play-by-play call for making SummerSlam Night One fully accessible for the first time in nearly two decades.
Joseph and Booker T handled live commentary for both nights of SummerSlam on WWE Radio, the new SiriusXM channel that launched July 27 and carried its first Premium Live Event broadcast from Minneapolis on August 1 and 2.
The praise came from a self-described 100 percent blind fan, shared through the fan account Mania Club. The fan wrote that Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler were the reason they originally fell in love with wrestling, since their commentary painted a full picture without needing sight. According to the fan, Joseph’s call reached that same level, adding that for the first time since 2008, they didn’t have to guess a single detail.
The fan pointed to a specific moment as proof. When Michael Cole went quiet during CM Punk’s entrance for the Night One main event, Joseph filled the silence by describing what Punk was wearing and where he was in the arena, details the fan said made the moment land the same way it would for a sighted viewer.
Joseph responded directly to the post on X, saying he didn’t know what to type and calling the message blown away, before adding that he hoped the fan would tune in again for Night Two.
The commentary played out under one of SummerSlam’s biggest storylines. Punk retained the Undisputed WWE Championship over Cody Rhodes in the Night One semi-main event after Randy Orton returned and hit Rhodes with an RKO. Joseph also worked in a subtle nod during the match, referencing Vin Scully’s “For Love of the Game” call, a detail sharp-eared listeners caught and flagged to him afterward.
WWE Radio’s live event coverage is expected to continue beyond SummerSlam, with WrestleMania, Royal Rumble and Survivor Series all set to get the same audio treatment on channel 156 going forward.
