AEW’s Swerve Strickland Makes DC Comics Debut in Batman #153

0

Since arriving in AEW in March 2022, Swerve Strickland has risen through the ranks to become one of the company’s very top stars. Now, the first-ever African American AEW World Champion has taken a huge leap out of the ring and into the world of DC Comics.

Strickland features in his own story in Batman #153, the latest issue from the Caped Crusader of Gotham City. The story not only covers Strickland’s rise through the ranks of AEW, but also his military upbringing, his time in Lucha Underground, and his championship reigns. On Twitter, Strickland shared his excitement over his appearance in the comic book.

Strickland’s appearance in Batman #153 comes after AEW and DC Comic partnered at San Diego Comic-Con in July of this year. At the convention, AEW hosted a Ride Inside The Ring And Beyond panel which included Strickland, Will Ospreay, Toni Storm, and others speaking about their experiences as part of Tony Khan’s company.

AEW & DC Comics

In 2019, AEW and DC Comics teamed up, thanks in part to both companies being partners of Warner Bros. Discovery. This partnership saw artist Howard Porter (The Flash) draw several AEW talent. Chris Jericho, Jon Moxley, ‘Hangman’ Adam Page, Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus, Nyla Rose, Cody and Brandi Rhodes, The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega. and Awesome Kong all received the comic-book treatment as part of this partnership.

Now, Swerve Strickland can add his name to those in AEW who have received DC’s seal of approval. Stay tuned to SEScoops for all the latest on Swerve Strickland as the former World Champion remains a top name in All Elite Wrestling.

CM Punk Pays Tribute To Shawn Michaels At WWE Bad Blood

0

CM Punk followed in the footsteps of Shawn Michaels at WWE Bad Blood in more ways than one as ‘The Second City Saint’ tipped the cap to HBK.

Just like Shawn Michaels did at the very first Bad Blood, CM Punk got the win against his adversary in Drew McIntyre in a Hell In A Cell match. The match was brutal and bloody as Punk and McIntyre fought tooth and nail to get the better of one another, but it was Punk who came up on top after he wrapped his knee with a chain to execute a devastating GTS to pick up the 1-2-3.

Punk’s victory comes 27 years to the day since Shawn Michaels defeated The Undertaker in the very first Hell In A Cell and that wasn’t lost on the victor. Punk came out in his usual style of attire but with a bit of a twist.

Michaels happened to wear black and silver longboys for his battle against ‘The Deadman’ and Punk followed suit with his signature Chicago starred trunks with the same color scheme. However, one of those stars was replaced with an HBK heart in a subtle tribute to the current operator of WWE NXT.

Since his return to WWE, Punk has formed a friendship with Michaels as he happens to pay visit down in NXT on the regular. His most recent visit happened in a big way as he was the special guest refereee for the main event match between Ethan Page and Trick Williams. Punk’s appearance occured in Chicago and it went down on the very first episode of NXT on The CW.

CM Punk wins hellacious Hell in a Cell match at WWE Bad Blood 2024

CM Punk defeated Drew McIntyre at tonight’s WWE Bad Blood Premium Live Event to kick off the show from State Farm Arena.

The blood feud between the two men saw the company bring back the Hell in a Cell gimmick for them to finish the feud. Punk claimed before the show that he was looking to bring back the dangerous nature of the match, and both he and McIntyre delivered.

Punk would get the win after hitting the GTS on McIntyre. All of the action stayed inside of the Cell but it was bloody and brutal.

Goldberg Confronts GUNTHER At WWE Bad Blood

0

The stars and pro wrestling legends were sure out for WWE Bad Blood and it included “Da Man” Bill Goldberg.

Bad Blood kicked off with CM Punk squaring off against Drew McIntyre in a Hell In A Cell but there was a good deal of pomp and circumstance beforehand. Bianca Belair, Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair kicked off the festivities before the show was swung to Michael Cole and Corey Graves on commentary. The duo made sure to mention that Atlanta was the place to be this evening as they made note of some dignitaries at ringside. That’s when WWE showed that Goldberg was sitting ringside. Goldberg gave a smile as he was shown on camera.

Goldberg was sandwiched in between his son Gage and hip-hop artist Killer Mike who Goldberg showed some friendly affection for. Goldberg’s recent relationship with WWE hasn’t been ultimate as he was very vocal about how Vince McMahon had did him dirty, promising him a retirement match he never received.

Goldberg’s appearance is only several weeks removed from Bret Hart’s appearance on WWE Raw in Calgary. It was the WWE World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER who mocked ‘Hitman’ by saying that Goldberg was his preferred wrestler over the ‘Excellence of Execution.’

Leave it to GUNTHER to spoil the party as Triple H later came out to announce a Crown Jewel Champion as it will be ‘Champion vs. Champion’ at the next Saudi Arabia PLE. GUNTHER was swift to try and disparage Goldberg despite his initial praise on RAW, calling him a “one trick pony” and having questionable parenting abilities. That got Goldberg out of his seat as he got in the ring to square off against GUNTHER, but Sami Zayn came out to attack his upcoming opponent. After the chaos, Triple H raised the hand of Goldberg as ‘Da Man’s’ music played. Goldberg also said to the camera “You’re next, boy,” teasing a potential feud with the champ.

As mentioned Goldberg has quite the history in Atlanta. He played for the Atlanta Falcons back in the early 1990s before making the transition to wrestling where he notoriously won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship against Hulk Hogan in the Georgia Dome back in 1998.

Other legends in attendance for WWE Bad Blood are The Brainbusters in Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard.

Drew McIntyre: ‘The Hatred Dies’ At WWE Bad Blood

0

Despite both personal and professional stresses, Drew McIntyre is ready for his ten month feud with CM Punk to culminate tonight at WWE Bad Blood.

McIntyre has been embroiled in the biggest angle of his wrestling career clashing with CM Punk, who notoriously has been out with an injury for the majority of the feud. However, the win-loss stands at 1-1 with the rubber match taking place in a Hell In A Cell at Bad Blood Saturday evening.

Before the show, McIntyre filmed himself sitting in his car down in Atlanta, making note that he planned to make chaos this weekend on social media, but life had other plans.

Sadly, McIntyre’s brother John announced the unfortunate passing of their aunt, noting on social media that she stepped up for the family when Drew and John’s mother passed away.

Drew didn’t mention the news during the video, but focused on the angle itself, noting that he is ready to put the near-year feud to bed. He also acknowledged his appreciation for fans making the case that the battle should main event the PLE.

“All that matters is this match happens, this match ends, this thing ends tonight. The hatred dies. Making promises. All I can promise is it’s not going to be a classic. It’s not going to be ‘cinema.’ It’s gonna be brutal. It’s going to shorten our careers, there will be mutually assured destruction and there will be blood. I apologize in advance for what people will see tonight.”

We at SEScoops would like to offer our deepest condolences and prayer to Drew McInytre, his aunt and his family at this time.

AJ Styles Injury: Update Following SmackDown Scare

0

Fans may have had quite the pause after it appeared AJ Styles may have gotten injured during his return match against Carmelo Hayes.

Styles returned to WWE SmackDown after being away for months and he got thrown right into the fire with a singles fight against the upstart Carmelo. However, the match got stopped early when Styles seemingly injured his ankle after an awkward landing. Styles crawled underneath the rope to be checked on by a doctor and the match was called. This allowed LA Knight to hit Hayes with his BFT finisher. Styles was helped to the back and it was later shown that “The Phenomenal One” was taken to a hospital.

If one were to go back and watch the footage, it would appear that Styles’ injury could indeed be legitimate and not an angle, but fear not. According to Fightful Select, AJ Styles injury is all apart of an angle and the former WWE Champion is just fine.

Styles’ persona is taken a new turn as he was the full-fledged heel in his previous feud against WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes. Styles went out in a memorable way in an “I Quit” match at Clash At The Castle when he was handcuffed to the corner and found himself between the turnbuckle and the steel stairs wielded by the “American Nightmare.” However, on SmackDown AJ said that he regretted his actions earlier this year and plans to make up for his past transgressions, aiming to rebuild his legacy.

Eric Bischoff Claims AEW Shockwave Will Not Land on FOX

0

Eric Bischoff, the former WWE executive and wrestling industry veteran, has recently shared his thoughts on the possibility of AEW’s rumored new show “Shockwave” airing on FOX. Speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast, Bischoff expressed strong skepticism about the likelihood of such a deal.

Bischoff’s Stance on AEW and FOX

Bischoff didn’t mince words when addressing the rumors, stating emphatically that AEW landing on FOX’s broadcast network is “a fantasy.”

He pointed out the significant disparity between SmackDown’s viewership on FOX and AEW’s current ratings for shows like Rampage and Collision:

“Does anybody in their right f*cking mind think that FOX Network is going to go, ‘Well, we couldn’t make SmackDown work with two and a half million viewers. But man, that Rampage or that Collision show, hmm! And this new one they’re coming out with, let’s do that.’ I understand why Swerve did it. He got excited, he’s emotional. He’s doing what he should do. But that was a bad take. I don’t see it, no. And to think that it could happen is a reflection of lack of information and knowledge, aka ignorance.”

Criticism of Swerve Strickland’s Comments

The discussion was sparked by recent comments from AEW wrestler Swerve Strickland. While Bischoff acknowledged Strickland’s enthusiasm for promoting his company, he criticized the wrestler’s suggestion that FOX might replace SmackDown with an AEW product

Viewership Comparisons

Bischoff highlighted the stark contrast in viewership numbers:

  • SmackDown on FOX: Approximately 2.3-2.5 million viewers per week
  • AEW Rampage and Collision: Around 300,000-400,000 viewers per week

He argued that it would be illogical for FOX to replace a show drawing over 2 million viewers with one that struggles to reach even a quarter of that audience.

Update On Original Plans For Motor City Machine Guns In WWE

0

The Motor City Machine Guns seemed revved up for a WWE debut in the near future and the initial thought for the veteran tag team is much different than expected.

The go-home episode of WWE SmackDown for Bad Blood featured a “fast cars” vignette for something forthcoming on the roster and many believe it’s a tease to the Motor City Machine Guns ready to pack a punch on the main roster.

The vignette featured a sports car being started with a pair of footsteps silhouetted. Also featured was a city scape which so happened to a shot of Detroit, MI, the backyard of Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin.

A good deal of speculation had the veteran TNA tag team making their “impact” down in NXT, but this vignette certainly changes that mindset. Additionally, a WWE source for Fightful Select stated that they never heard Shelley and Sabin planned for working in NXT. According to the source, the Detroit duo has been slated to be apart of the SmackDown roster for quite some time.

While many young stars would benefit from getting a gauge from both Shelley and Sabin, it makes a lot more marketing sense to have the two established stars be a foundation for a tag division on SmackDown.

Before heading to WWE, Shelley and Sabin both had some memorable last hurrahs with TNA as Shelley finally became the World Champion for the promotion and Sabin had anothe run with the X-Division Title.

Serendipituosly enough, the same night the vignette aired on SmackDown, AJ Styles made his return to the program in a match against Carmelo Hayes.

Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley Both make Big Claims about Feud ahead of WWE Bad Blood

0

Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley have made some big claims ahead of their match at WWE Bad Blood 2024 tonight from State Farm Arena.

Speaking to Jackie Redmond ahead of the show, Morgan claimed that if she wins tonight then the feud between her and Ripley will be over:

“She likes to claim that the only reason I’ve been able to beat her twice is because of Daddy Dom, and like you said, he’s going to be locked in a shark cage, so when I beat her again for this third and final time, there’s no more excuses that she can say. So when I beat Rhea Ripley at Bad Blood, it’s safe to say that the Liv Morgan Revenge Tour will finally be over.”

Ripley also noted on the UpUpDownDown Fanatics Auction stream that she does not want to still be in a feud with Morgan when asked who she wants to face at WrestleMania next year, saying “I’ve seen people predicting Liv but I want to be done with that now.”

Why CM Punk needs to beat Drew McIntyre at WWE Bad Blood 2024

0

The highly anticipated WWE Bad Blood 2024 event is set to feature a brutal Hell in a Cell match between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre, bringing their intense 9-month rivalry to a climax.

As these two superstars prepare to wage war inside the unforgiving steel structure, there are compelling reasons why CM Punk needs to emerge victorious in this career-defining clash.

The Road to Redemption

CM Punk’s return to WWE has been a rollercoaster ride, filled with both triumphs and setbacks. His rivalry with Drew McIntyre has been particularly tumultuous, with both men inflicting physical and emotional damage on each other.

Overcoming Past Defeats

While Punk scored a victory over McIntyre in their Strap Match at WWE Bash in Berlin, he suffered a controversial loss at SummerSlam due to interference from special guest referee Seth Rollins.

A win at Bad Blood would allow Punk to even the score and prove that he can overcome McIntyre in a definitive manner.

Setting Up Future Opportunities

A win over Drew McIntyre at Bad Blood could open up exciting new avenues for CM Punk’s near future career trajectory in WWE.

World Heavyweight Championship Aspirations

CM Punk has already teased a potential clash with Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship, likely to take place at Survivor Series.

A decisive victory over McIntyre would solidify Punk’s claim as the number one contender and set the stage for this highly anticipated title match.

Elevating the Hell in a Cell Stipulation

CM Punk has expressed a desire to bring back the old feeling of the Hell in a Cell match, which he feels has been “bastardised” in recent years.

A brutal, hard-fought victory could help restore the prestige and intensity associated with this legendary stipulation.

Narrative Closure

The feud between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre has been deeply personal, involving stolen mementos, vicious attacks, and career-altering moments. A definitive end to this rivalry is necessary for both performers to move forward.

WWE Bad Blood 2024 on Netflix: Premium Live Event being shown in these countries

0

WWE’s upcoming premium live event, Bad Blood 2024, is set to make history as it becomes the first WWE event to stream live on Netflix in select international markets. This groundbreaking move comes ahead of WWE’s major shift to Netflix in January 2025, when Monday Night Raw will begin streaming exclusively on the platform.

Countries Streaming WWE Bad Blood 2024 on Netflix

Brazil

Brazil has been confirmed as the first country where WWE Bad Blood 2024 will be available to stream live on Netflix.

Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics verified this information using a VPN, confirming that the event is listed on Netflix Brazil’s platform.

New Zealand

New Zealand has also been reported as a country where WWE Bad Blood 2024 will be streaming live on Netflix.

This follows Netflix’s previous live streaming of WrestleMania 40 in the country, indicating a growing partnership between WWE and Netflix in the region.

Significance of WWE’s Netflix Debut

This early streaming of WWE Bad Blood 2024 on Netflix in select international markets marks a significant milestone in WWE’s transition to the streaming giant. It serves as a precursor to the company’s broader move to Netflix, which is set to begin in January 2025.

Testing the Waters

By airing Bad Blood 2024 on Netflix in specific countries, WWE is likely testing the technical aspects and viewer reception of their content on the platform.

This trial run could provide valuable insights and help iron out any potential issues before the full-scale launch of WWE programming on Netflix next year.

Expanding Global Reach

The decision to stream Bad Blood 2024 on Netflix in international markets demonstrates WWE’s commitment to expanding its global reach.

By leveraging Netflix’s vast subscriber base, WWE can potentially attract new viewers and provide easier access to its content for existing fans in these regions.

WWE’s Netflix Deal: A Game-Changer

In early 2024, WWE signed a landmark deal with Netflix, valued at over $5 billion for ten years of WWE Monday Night Raw.

This agreement marks a significant shift in WWE’s broadcasting strategy, moving its flagship show off traditional cable television for the first time in three decades.

Future of WWE on Netflix

While the current focus is on Monday Night Raw, Netflix executives have expressed interest in eventually hosting WWE’s premium live events on the platform.

The streaming of Bad Blood 2024 in select markets could be seen as a step towards this goal, potentially paving the way for more WWE content on Netflix globally.

Taz Will Miss TV Time Due To Knee Replacement Surgery

0

AEW commentator Taz is expected to miss TV time as he is set to undergo knee replacement surgery.

On this week’s AEW Dynamite, a storyline began in which Taz was assaulted by a mystery attacker in the parking lot ahead of the show. Nigel McGuinness replaced him on the commentary desk alongside Excalibur and Tony Schiavone. It was reported that the storyline was developed to write Taz off the programming as he’s set to get full knee replacement surgery. Taz then announced the same on social media.

“Unfortunately, I will be out for awhile. I’ll be having total knee replacement surgery very soon. Talk to you guys down the road.”

Earlier this year, Taz was informed that he required both of his knees and both of his shoulders replaced. The pro wrestling legend had stated that he was going to keep trying regenerative procedures and dealing with the pain. However, he will now go under the knife.

Taz said that the issues were not from bumps he took in the ring. However, it was caused due to heavy weight training during his career. Taz was last seen on AEW when Hook officially retired the FTW Championship at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam and presented it back to his father. On this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite, Taz’s son Hook delivered a promo and said that he will avenge the attack on his father.

Gunther Credits Triple H’s Support As Key to His Rise

0

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther has stated that WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H played a pivotal role in his success.

‘The Ring General’ has tasted massive success in WWE under Triple H’s control. He has been the longest-reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion of all time and soon became the World Heavyweight Champion. Gunther has now hailed his boss for the creative direction and how he has benefitted from it.

Gunther told Metro UK that Triple H has always supported him and praised his boss for his disciplined approach while also focusing on the long-term goals. He said:

“He always supported me and saw something in me. In general, I think he is somebody that is very disciplined when it comes to his long term goals with certain people and sticking to them. I don’t know if I would be here without ever being more or less connected with Triple H in that sense.”

Gunther also talked about having creative freedom and how Triple H deals with it. He said:

“All I can do is I can do me. I can do that better than anybody else. And in my case, it’s ‘take it or leave it.'”

The current WWE World Heavyweight Champion then revealed that he didn’t share the same connection with his former boss Vince McMahon. The Austrian powerhouse made his way into the main roster for the first time in 2019 but was eliminated in minutes at WWE Survivor Series. He didn’t get much time to work under Vince but said that there was a difference in their creative ideas. He said:

“The creative ideas from his side, obviously, was never my kind of thing. But that’s subjective. It’s a taste thing. I think the success can’t be denied. But I was just under him for maybe three and a half months, and in that time, I had half a conversation with him.”

Gunther is thriving and he looks unstoppable as the World Champion. However, Sami Zayn is determined to end his title run similar to how he dethroned him off the Intercontinental title. On this week’s WWE Raw, Gunther finally accepted Zayn’s challenge and they will face each other soon. However, that happened after ‘The Ring General’ laid out Zayn with a brutal attack.

Multi-time WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair thought that her life was over after she suffered severe injuries last year. “The Queen” has been away from the programming since suffering a significant knee injury including tears to her ACL, MCL, and meniscus last year.

Charlotte Flair recently joined in for an interview on the Forever Young Podcast with Dr. John Layke and Dr. Payman Danielpour. She opened up on the injury and her recovery process. The former WWE Women’s Champion is determined to recuperate and bring back the best version of herself. She said:

“I thought my life was over. My husband [Andrade] had just come back to the company or was on his way back. I knew he was going to be debuting soon. From the moment I was taken out, I just have kept telling myself that I’m going to come back the best version of the Queen when I do come back.”

‘The Queen’ is using the injury hiatus to her advantage as she is scouting the present wrestling landscape to add more layers to her character when she is back. Flair explained:

“It’s been a challenge, but a challenge I know that’s going to make me better in the long run because I’ve had the opportunity over these, I think it’s been like nine, eight months now to go back and see things that I would have done over. What can I do over? Look at the landscape of the division and try to figure out where I can add character layers when I come back.”

During the conversation, she was asked how long until she returns. However, Flair remained tight-lipped and said that she wants fans to get surprised when she makes her comeback.

The daughter of legendary wrestler Ric Flair, is quite active on her social media and shares footage of her in-ring training. She previously dropped a clip of running the ropes and doing a series of rolls.

There is a belief that there is still some time left before she returns to the ring as the injuries that she sustained last year were severe. She is likely to miss the remainder of the year and could be back next year.

Kayla Braxton Details Initial Frustration With Paul Heyman Pairing

0

Kayla Braxton has revealed that she wasn’t thrilled with the Paul Heyman pairing at first but she learned the genius of the former ECW owner as time went by.

The former WWE personality recently had an interview with Denise Salcedo. She talked about things such as her love for horror movies, the reason she left WWE, and more.

During the talk, Braxton was asked about her work with Heyman which was one of the highlights of her later run in WWE. Kayla revealed that she wasn’t a fan of the wise man when he first started appearing on Talking Smack with her:

“Yeah, probably one of the most—if not the most—brilliant mind in wrestling. Paul’s been around forever, for like many different leaderships and eras of wrestling. That really happened very organically back during the Thunderdome era, during the pandemic, when they put us together on Talking Smack.

So we had the panel show.  I didn’t really know Paul, hadn’t worked with Paul that much at the time. I just knew that this really big, loud man was on my kickoff show all of a sudden, taking up all my airtime. I was getting really frustrated with him, but then the more I got to work with him…man, I would not have become the broadcaster I had become if it weren’t for Paul Heyman.”

Something Really Special: Kayla Braxton

Things changed once Paul Heyman started working his magic. Kayla Braxton mentioned how even before her time, Talking Smack was a destination for some big storyline developments. Her mini-feud with Heyman also made its way to SmackDown when Paul Heyman started doing his thing:

“From there, we’d create little mini storylines on the panel—which a lot of times, Talking Smack, things that would happen on there, even that the Renee Paquette, then Renee Young and Daniel Bryan – things would end up on TV at storylines. That’s kind of what inched our way into this whole Bloodline feud that I had.

And listen, there were a lot of times we’d be going live, I’d be handed a script of what to say in my interview. and Paul’s like ‘You don’t need that.’ I’m like ‘Yo we’re going live and I don’t know if I can just tell them in the truck hey, I’m not saying that’ But we would just go off the cuff, and anything Paul touched turned to gold. It was really fun. And that’s also something that’s really special. Not a lot of people can say that they got to work that closely with the wise man.”

Kayla Braxton left NXT for the main roster in April 2019. She was made host of Talking Smack in August 2020 and the show was renamed to SmackDown LowDown. She left the company in June this year.

Chelsea Green is not happy with the fans and fellow WWE superstars gloating about her loss in the dumpster match on this week’s episode of SmackDown.

Former General Manager Vickie Guerrero suggested the return of the match during the show’s Fox premiere. Current GM Nick Aldis made the match official.

The Bad Blood go-home episode of the show this week saw Green taking on Michin in the stipulation match. Chelsea’s partner Piper Niven tried to help her friend win the bout but she failed.

The ending of the match saw Michin first sending Niven crashing through the side of the dumpster. She then power-bombed Chelsea Green through a table set inside the dumpster and closed the lid to win the match.

The first dark match of the night then saw Liv Morgan with Dirty Dom defending the Women’s Title against Lyra Valkyria. Morgan picked up the victory in the bout.

The second dark match featured Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes facing Austin Theory. The latter had his A Town Down Under partner Greyson Waller on his side.
