The AEW futures of one of the company’s married couples are suddenly in question, and it sounds like even people inside the company aren’t sure how it plays out.
Bryan Alvarez reported today that Sammy Guevara’s status is a mystery internally, while adding a new wrinkle involving his wife, Tay Melo.
Nobody in AEW seems to know what’s up with Sammy Guevara right now. Multiple sources told me that Tay Melo requested a release last year but it was denied. It’s expected we will know what’s up when everyone gets to TV tomorrow.
The report lands just days after Guevara scrubbed every AEW reference from his X bio, replacing it and simply posting “New bio,” a move that set off exit speculation. He remains listed on AEW’s official roster page.
One of AEW’s original Four Pillars and a three-time TNT Champion, Guevara has been used sparingly in 2026, with his last Dynamite match coming in January against Darby Allin for the World Championship. He’s currently the reigning ROH World Tag Team Champion and has said his limited AEW TV time is “not my call.”
Melo, who signed with AEW in 2020 and married Guevara in 2022, hasn’t wrestled on AEW television since a November 2025 loss to Thekla. The couple, who share a young daughter, recently vacationed in Brazil, with Melo posting that the two were “training for our comebacks.”
