Athena isn’t content being ROH’s longest-reigning women’s champion ever and she’s got Hulk Hogan’s record in her sights next.
Athena has held the ROH Women’s World Championship for roughly 1,363 days and counting since winning it in 2022. Speaking with WFAA, she explained that she recently became the longest-reigning champion of the modern era regardless of gender, and pointed to a new target: passing Hogan’s 1,474-day reign as WWF World Heavyweight Champion, which she says she can do by around Christmas.
So, like, I’m the longest-reigning champion in company history. Not only that, a few weeks ago I actually became the longest-reigning champion of the modern-day era, man or woman. So I am the most official longest-reigning champion currently at this point in time.
She acknowledged Bruno Sammartino still holds the all-time record but made clear her real goal is simply to keep the title indefinitely.
The longest-reigning champion ever is Bruno Sammartino, who is absolutely phenomenal and, as we would say, a complete unit. But I think my next goal, which is very immediate, is Christmas because then I will surpass Hulk Hogan’s longest reign as well. So that’s the goal right now, but the goal is to keep it forever,” Athena added.
Athena captured the ROH Women’s Championship in 2022 and has successfully held the title for almost four years now, becoming the longest-reigning champion in ROH history.
