At WWE SummerSlam, Fatal Influence’s Fallon Henley, Jacy Jayne, and Lainey Reid bested WWE legends Brie Bella, Nikki Bella, and Paige in six-woman tag competition. As later revealed by Brie, however, WWE almost called off their the match entirely.
In the Bella Twins’ SummerSlam vlog, Nikki pointed out the irony in both of them sustaining injuries during the other’s return. In Nikki’s case, she tore, sprained, and fractured her ankle in the midst of tag team match on the March 27 edition of WWE SmackDown. For Brie, a broken scapula materialized during the aforementioned six-woman tag at SummerSlam, which marked Nikki’s official in-ring return. Despite WWE’s suggestion of immediately ending the PLE bout, Brie insisted on finishing it as planned.
What’s even crazier that some of the girls were talking about is, when you broke your ankle, you continued the match, and then I broke my shoulder,” Brie said. “It’s so funny, I don’t know if it’s because we’re people pleasers, but the whole time in my head I’m like, ‘No, I’ve got to stay in so Nikki can get the hot tag.’ They were telling me, ‘Stay down,’ or they were thinking about calling the match. And I’m like, ‘No, no, no.’ Even though I was in crazy pain, all I could think about was, ‘Nikki’s got to hit that comeback.'
Paige, a fellow former Divas Champion, found herself on the receiving end of a pin from Jayne after getting blasted by a rolling encore. Following the loss, Nikki and Brie attacked Paige, with Brie noticeably clutching her shoulder while Nikki dropped the former “Anti-Diva” with a Rack Attack 2.0.
The timetable for Brie’s comeback is currently unclear. We continue to wish her a full and speedy recovery.
