Jake Hager will open the main card at Power Slap 23 on September 17, taking on Johnny Magna at the promotion’s first event in Texas.
Power Slap confirmed the pairing on social media, billing it as part of a heavyweight main card that also features former UFC fighter Chris Barnett. The event, Double Eagle Energy Power Slap 23: Wolverine vs. Greenhalgh, takes place at United Supermarkets Arena on the Texas Tech campus in Lubbock and streams live and free on YouTube.
Hager, known to wrestling fans as Jack Swagger in WWE and by his own name during his run in AEW, signed a six-appearance deal with Power Slap earlier this year. He opened his run with a third-round knockout win over Devin Jenkins at Power Slap 19 in April, then was knocked out by Amanpreet Singh in his next outing at Power Slap 21 in July. Hager later discussed the knockout and his 45-day medical suspension, comparing the limited number of shots a fighter can take to a wrestler’s bump card.
Johnny Magna Enters Unbeaten
Magna, who fights under the nickname “The New Mexico Badass,” has yet to lose a Power Slap bout. He most recently defeated Pono Pau at Power Slap 19, the same card where Hager scored his debut win.
Power Slap 23 marks the promotion’s first show in Texas. The card is headlined by reigning Light Heavyweight Champion Wolverine defending his title against Greenhalgh.
