Jey Uso got a hostile reception in Quito, Ecuador, where fans chanted “You can’t wrestle” at him during Wednesday night’s WWE live event. The show was the first stop on the Raw roster’s South America Live Tour.
The crowd hurled Spanish-language insults at the former World Heavyweight Champion throughout the main event, along with full-volume chants of “¡No sabes luchar!” Fan footage of the chant, credited to the WWEEUP account on Instagram, has since made the rounds on X and Reddit.
Jey teamed with Jimmy Uso and Jacob Fatu in the six-man tag team main event, which The Bloodline lost to Seth Rollins, LA Knight and Solo Sikoa. The match was also Rollins’ first since his SummerSlam loss to Roman Reigns.
The ‘Can’t Wrestle’ Debate Reaches The Arena
The chant is usually an online complaint, and CM Punk addressed it in January on Busted Open Radio with David LaGreca. Punk said he battles John Cena and Jey for t-shirt sales on any given night and that fans go crazy for Jey’s music.
“This dude can go out on TV for 10 minutes and just yeet,” Punk said, before pushing back on online critics who rank Jey among the worst workers in the business. “Is he, or are you just extremely hyperbolic?”
Jey’s role has changed since then. He and Jimmy are now aligned with Roman Reigns in The Bloodline, the heel side of Wednesday’s main event, and the twins were on the wrong end of the on-screen parking lot attack by Royce Keys and OTM that Netflix censored during the August 31 Raw.
Quito didn’t turn on him completely. One fan account on X posted a clip asking how the crowd went from telling Jey he can’t wrestle to doing the YEET.
Wednesday’s show marked WWE’s first event in Ecuador in 10 years, though SuperLuchas described a poor turnout at Coliseo General Rumiñahui. The tour, which WWE advertised with The Usos among its featured names, continues Thursday in Bogotá, Colombia, followed by Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Friday and Santiago, Chile, on Saturday.
