Fans of John Cena are rallying around his family after his father revealed devastating health news on Thursday.

In an emotional update, John Cena Sr. revealed that doctors had recently diagnosed his girlfriend’s son, Tommy, with a rare case of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease. In light of the news, the father of the former WWE Champion then asked the wrestling community for prayers.

I very rarely ask for something. Today, I am asking you all for prayers,” Cena Sr. wrote on X. “My girlfriends son, age 42 was just diagnosed with a very rare case of ALS. I am asking you all for your prayers for him. Thank you, his name is Tommy. Thank you all for your prayers.

Further details on Tommy’s condition were not disclosed. Per the Mayo Clinic, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is “a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Also known as ALS, the disease leads to muscle weakness and other symptoms that get worse over time.”

Another Name Is Battling ALS

Earlier this year, AEW star Tanea “Rebel” Brooks revealed that she too is suffering from ALS. In her case, the disease has reached the terminal stage.

Since sharing the news, Rebel has received an abundance of support from her AEW colleagues, such as Sting and Britt Baker, as well as wrestlers from other wrestling companies like WWE’s Cody Rhodes and Bayley. Next month, AEW will pay tribute to her with a special Rebel Heart Dynamite, where funds will be forwarded to the I AM ALS and Team Gleason organizations.
