Matt Jackson has already started filling a notepad with ideas for a match that didn’t seem possible a year ago.
The Young Bucks against Adam Copeland and Christian Cage has quietly become one of wrestling’s last great untapped tag team matchups, and it’s suddenly within reach. Speaking with Justin Barrasso, Jackson made clear he knows exactly what’s on the table.
I think it’s one of the few, final big money tag matches that are currently left and on the table. For years, we obviously counted this one out as a possibility, but now here we are–and the match is possibly at play? It still doesn’t feel real. My mind is already racing at the thought, and ideas are already in my notepad. But I won’t believe it until I see it.
The pieces have been sliding into position for months. Copeland and Christian returned at AEW Revolution in March, ambushing FTR moments after the champions had turned back the Bucks, and the two teams shared a brief, loaded staredown on their way out. Cage and Cope then took the AEW World Tag Team Championship at Double or Nothing in May and have held it since.
Most recently, the Bucks ran into the champions backstage on the July 18 edition of Collision, another nudge toward a collision that now feels inevitable rather than fantastical.
The obvious stage is AEW All In: London on August 30 at Wembley Stadium. Reports in June indicated Tony Khan had been eyeing exactly that match for the show. For Jackson’s part, he’s not counting on anything until the bell rings.
