NXT North American Champion Myles Borne recently opened up about how his relationship with WWE Women's World Champion Stephanie Vaquer started, revealing a story that contrasts sharply with his confident on-screen persona.
Speaking to Denise Salcedo, the youngster admitted he spent weeks avoiding Vaquer backstage despite mutual interest from the start.
Myles Borne explained that while the connection was immediate, his nerves got the better of him every time they crossed paths. Rather than strike up a conversation, he would actively walk in the opposite direction to avoid the interaction.
You know, honestly, when we first saw each other, we noticed. And then, for the first couple of weeks, we knew we liked each other, but I would try to build up the courage to talk to her," Borne said. "And as soon as we crossed paths, I'd go the opposite direction. I promise, every time. And she noticed it.
Skipping Meals to Avoid Conversation
The avoidance reached a point where Borne would abandon basic plans just to sidestep an encounter. He recalled one instance where he turned away from catering entirely after spotting 'La Primera' heading in the same direction.
I remember one time we were backstage, and I was coming in through one door to go to catering, and she was coming through another door, and as our paths intersected, I turned back around and walked out," he explained. "I didn't even eat. I said, 'Nope, I'm not eating now. I'm just going to be hungry,' because I was still trying to figure out what I wanted to say to her.
Vaquer Made the First Move
The dynamic shifted when Vaquer took the initiative and reached out directly. She messaged Borne, suggesting they hang out and have dinner, forcing him to finally confront the situation he had been avoiding.
Eventually she gave me no choice. She messaged me and said, 'Hey, let's hang out. Let's go have dinner.' And, you know, we did," Borne said. "That's when I was like, okay, now I have no choice. I have to just build up the courage and talk to her. And it was great. It was like the connection from the first day. She's just a genuinely amazing person, and I'm lucky, you know.
Myles Borne also addressed the attention their relationship has received, joking about the reaction while making it clear he values success in all areas of his life.
So, yeah, all the guys out there who are so mad. Hey, I get it. I get it. But like I said, I want to win in every aspect in life, and that's one of the aspects," he said.
The couple previously confirmed their relationship through social media exchanges after months of speculation. Borne's candid account offers a behind-the-scenes look at how the relationship developed, showing a side of the performer fans rarely see on television.
