Darby Allin Explains Why He Felt Nothing When He Won AEW World Title

Darby Allin says he felt nothing when he won the AEW World Championship.

Allin beat MJF at Dynamite: Spring BreakThru on April 15 in a match that lasted a little over two minutes, finishing with four Coffin Drops and a side headlock takeover. Asked by Forbes what he remembers about standing in the ring afterward while the locker room came out, he said there was not much there.

It’s funny because I felt nothing, and that’s because my body was so depleted. I was so beat into the ground leading up to that week, dude. It took everything to get to that point. So afterwards, it felt numb. It was crazy.

The reaction came later.

But moments after, when I finally got to the back and started to decompress, I realized that I climbed to the top of AEW without having to compromise myself, and that meant everything to me.

He then took a swing at how some wrestlers reach the top.

Because to me, what’s the point of becoming a world champion if you’re just an industry plant and what you’re doing is not from the soul and isn’t pure? Like, hey, we’re going to tell you what to do every step along the way, and then we’re going to put something on you. Well, what’s the point of that?

Allin held the title for 39 days and made seven defenses before losing it back to MJF in a Title vs. Hair match at Double or Nothing in May. At 175 pounds, he is the lightest world champion in AEW’s history.

He challenges Kevin Knight for the TNT Championship in a Falls Count Anywhere match at All In on Saturday at Wembley Stadium.
