Kendal Grey is still not medically cleared to compete. The former NXT Women’s Champion shared on social media Tuesday that doctors did not clear her following her latest medical evaluation, so her recovery from vertigo and balance problems continues.
Grey hasn’t wrestled since losing the NXT Women’s Championship to Kelani Jordan at NXT Heatwave on August 30 in Edinburg, Texas. Jordan sent Grey headfirst into an exposed turnbuckle and followed with a split-legged moonsault for the pin, ending Grey’s reign at 63 days.
WWE addressed her status on the September 1 episode of NXT. Vic Joseph said the medical team had ruled out a concussion but found a disruption of Grey’s vestibular system, which controls her balance and awareness, and ruled her out for the foreseeable future.
The Problems Started Before Heatwave
The issue traces back to Grey’s August 4 NXT Underground match against Lola Vice. Grey crashed into the steel steps and bled from the ear, then still won the match by armbar.
Days before Heatwave, Grey told Busted Open Radio she still had ringing in her ear and didn’t feel fully balanced. She went ahead with the defense anyway. “My No. 1 priority isn’t fully recovering; it’s defending this championship,” she said.
NXT General Manager Robert Stone later told Busted Open Radio that fans wouldn’t see Grey in action “for the next few weeks.” He said she’s “healing up from a few different things” and didn’t give a return date.
Her absence is already part of NXT television. After Jordan retained the title against Jaida Parker on September 8, Grey’s friend Wren Sinclair attacked Jordan with a kendo stick in the storyline and struck a referee, which led to Sinclair’s suspension from NXT.
Jordan remains NXT Women’s Champion. WWE has not announced a timeline for Grey’s return.
