Tony Khan has provided update on MJF’s status.
The former World Heavyweight Champion has been very active in the first half of 2026, not only competing regularly for AEW but also having half a dozen indie matches in the time. He has not been seen on TV since dropping the title to Kenny Omega on the July 8 Dynamite, however, leaving fans questioning his status.
The AEW President was asked about the Salt of The Earth during the Redemption media call. Tony Khan revealed that MJF has worked through some major injuries this year and having a strong roster means that he can be allowed some time off to heal:
We don’t have to put unnecessary pressure on our wrestlers because we want to extend their careers. In MJF’s case, that’s someone I hope is wrestling at the highest level for decades. He’s still a very young man, and he’s fought through some major injuries this year, which is a real credit to him.

Tony Khan went on to say that MJF has been one of the great things about AEW in 2026, before confirming that the 30-year-old will not be out of action for too long:
I’m looking forward to his return when he’s back, which I’m sure will be very soon. I’m grateful that the injuries he sustained aren’t anything that will keep him out for a really long time. As you know, there are times in this sport when injuries can alter careers. I’m glad he’s going to be okay because MJF is a very important wrestler in AEW.
Without naming anyone, Khan later mentioned how injuries have kept stars out for years or even indefinitely. He said that while MJF’s case isn’t like that, he was definitely ‘banged up’ after going through some hard-hitting matches.
