Ric Flair has shared the ring, locker rooms, and boardrooms with generations of wrestling’s biggest names. So when he names one person as the sharpest at navigating the business’s political side, it carries weight.
In a conversation with Roman Sharf, Flair was running through wrestlers he considered among the best and realized he’d initially left out a few major names, correcting himself to include Shawn Michaels, Triple H, and The Undertaker.
I left off Shawn Michaels and Hunter, two of them. They’re great. Um, an Undertaker. Um, he’s still around. Good. Thank God.
The discussion then shifted from in-ring ability to something different: who, in Flair’s experience, understood the actual politics of the wrestling business better than anyone else he’d worked with.
After confirming that was specifically about the behind-the-scenes political side rather than performance, Flair didn’t hesitate and his answer was immediate and singular:
Triple H.
It’s a notable endorsement given Flair’s decades navigating the territories, Jim Crockett Promotions, WCW, and WWE. He worked under and alongside countless promoters, executives, and power players along the way.
Triple H, of course, eventually transitioned from top in-ring star to one of WWE’s most powerful backstage executives but Flair’s comment suggests he recognized that political instinct in Triple H well before it became such a defining part of his post-wrestling legacy.
