Triple H is not shy about how big he thinks Oba Femi’s ceiling is. Appearing on ESPN’s First Take with Shae Cornette and Peter Rosenberg ahead of Brock Lesnar and Femi’s Hell in a Cell match at SummerSlam, the WWE Chief Content Officer put Femi in a class of one.
The only guy that I’ve seen that I can recall walking down a hallway at one of our events, seeing for the first time and thinking, ‘Wow, this just changed the game,’ was Brock Lesnar. Oba Femi is of that same cloth.
A Paradigm Shift In A Short Amount Of Time
Triple H noted that Femi has only been doing this for a short amount of time before calling him a rare kind of athlete.
When you see him in-ring for the first time, and keep in mind he’s only been doing this for a very short period of time, he is a paradigm-shifting, game-changing athlete that comes along once in a generation.
He also pointed to Femi’s mind for the business as much as his physical tools, calling him one of the smartest people he deals with on a daily basis:
The one thing about Oba I think that stands out more than anything else for me dealing with him on a day-to-day basis is he is a smart man. It’s a different level of intelligence and business savvy like I’ve seen in very few people.
Why Lesnar Came Back For Round Three
Femi beat Lesnar at WrestleMania 42, and Lesnar responded by leaving his gear in the ring, appearing to hang it up. That retirement didn’t last. Lesnar returned to attack Femi before beating him in a rematch at Clash in Italy, setting up a rubber match. Triple H framed the comeback as Lesnar chasing something he hadn’t felt in years.
Brock, I believe in his mind, retired at WrestleMania. I believe that wasn’t enough for him. I believe he wanted to come back to prove Oba wrong. He did that. He then wanted to go to Minnesota to SummerSlam, to his hometown. He wanted it inside Hell in a Cell. He has something here to prove.
Triple H went a step further, comparing what he’s seen from Femi to the last time Lesnar faced a genuine threat.
He’s come up against something like he hasn’t come up against in a long time, maybe since the Undertaker, in Oba Femi.
Lesnar and Femi are tied 1-1 heading into the rubber match, and the Hell in a Cell stipulation gives Lesnar the experience edge with a 2-2 record inside the structure to Femi’s zero.
Triple H reportedly called audibles on the go-home Raw segment building to the match, while Mark Henry has predicted the Hell in a Cell will mark the end of Lesnar’s run with Femi. They settle it Saturday, August 1, on night one of SummerSlam from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
