AEW Star Provides Injury Update

ByAndrew RavensProfessional Wrestling Journalist

Anna Jay is banged up, but the bigger news out of AEW’s Redemption media call may be that her tag team is coming to an end.

Jay confirmed she’s currently out with a shoulder injury. Tony Khan noted on the call that the 28-year-old recently re-signed with AEW but is sidelined, having undergone an MRI last week. Jay filled in the rest on a Twitch stream.

Yes, the injury thing is true. I don’t really know the extent of it. I’m going to a few doctors right now just to get everything checked out, just to get a few different opinions so I make the right choice. But hopefully it’s not as bad as it possibly can be.

She noted it’s a recurring problem area, and pushed back on the perception that she’s constantly hurt.

My injury, it’s to do with my shoulder, which I’ve had some issues in the past with, so that’s why I just want to get a few different opinions and hopefully it’ll be okay. Also, people are like, ‘She’s always injured.’ I’ve had two injuries while at AEW, my shoulder and my ribs being dislocated. That’s it.

The more significant update concerns her partner. Khan said on the same call that he plans to grant Tay Melo her release, which would bring the TayJay tag team to a close. Melo and Jay first teamed up on the September 29, 2021 edition of Dynamite and have been paired on and off ever since.

That lines up with recent reporting. Bryan Alvarez had said Melo requested her release last year and was denied, and her situation was tied to the broader questions surrounding her husband, Sammy Guevara, whose own AEW status was the subject of exit rumors that Alvarez later shot down. Melo hasn’t wrestled since teaming with Jay in a June 6 loss to Divine Dominion, which now stands as TayJay’s final match.
